To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster. P1 since early 2017 (WP before that).

Got upgraded to the champagne this year (I received the travel wallet last year). A bit of a mystery considering that my travel has been pretty consistent across both years. FWIW, I have the "L1" next to my FF# as well.

Welcome to AFF!

L1 against my QF# and champagne for me too. I would have preferred the NC headphones though. Not complaining, still very grateful to QF for the generous gift. This year's champagne will sit next to the ones from past 2 years.. ! I am sure eventually they will get consumed..

Or, it could stand for ‘L’ack of time on the ground. In my case ‘L’ucky I still have a wife ‍♂️

Those "L" numbers intrigue me.

Due to my "as always" imperfect timing, my gift arrived just hours after I had left on a trip - as I was talking to my wife on the phone from the Sydney Flounge it arrived but all I know is that it appeared to be another bottle.

Quick question, something that just occurred to me - if my year end is 31 Dec when do they usually send out your new membership card? I am still running around with one that is two years old - can't remember getting it last year - I assume they still do send one out automatically??

This year I got mine in the first week or 10 days of September (expiry 30 Sept). Was automatic.

Now I am really worried :(

I just "phoned home" and my daughter answered. She said my wife could not come to the phone, as she has some lady friends visiting, and "is struggling opening some bottle" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure it's just the outer packaging and she has no intention of actually opening the bottle.

I requalied at the beginning of October for a 31 December expiry. No phone call or note for the requalificatuon. I called up mid November chasing my new card and was advised to relax and it would be sent out later in December.

The electronic card on the app was continuing to show a 2018 expiry up to the end of November but has now clicked over to a 2019 expiry.

It's sloppy but mirrors many experiences. Silence. Then new card and generic letter. Weeks later a congratulatory email repeating same information in the letter (and in my case with outdated information about the program).

.....

Apparently my letter had the L1 thing - have not actually seen it yet. And I got a bottle. So as far as I see it from the posts here there is a direct correlation between that "L" value and the gift. I am not asking anyone to reveal their spend, etc, but I would consider myself at the bottom of P1 - barely got just over 4000 SC for the year. And I have never been asked to reveal why I fly - so how would they know if someone is a government flyer, etc?? And why on earth would QF include those L numbers? Glitch? Error?

I doubt it's value of the pax / how much they fly.
As the majority get champagne and are L1 I reckon that's the norm. I know two reasons why someone wouldn't get champers: first, if you have asked at some point to receive something other than alcohol; and second if you are a Govt employee and the value of the main gift (champagne the past few years) exceeds the Finance Department's threshold for acceptable gifts. These could be L2 and L3. But someone will probably need to ask the SST to be sure.
