Leave if you’re not happy, Qantas CEO tells Qatar Airways

What's the fixation with VA? I tend to recall a number of competative attempts that QF sent to the wall by bleeding them dry.

I assume your'e referring to Compass'? I had not thought of going back quite that far but it is probably the case.

Qantas says destinations lost because of row with Qatar Airways can be replaced thanks to pact with Emirates, Air France and KLM.

And can we use EK, AF and KL on the oneworld five stop award? The oneworld Explorer? Can we use EK, AF and KL on their standalone (non-QF coded) flight numbers to earn SCs and frequent flyer points? And access their lounges? It's a pathetically short-sighted and naive statement from Joyce and it makes me very angry.

Would it be fair to say that this is almost what QF did when Virgin entered the local market?

I reckon it's exactly what QF is doing now with extremely aggressive pricing on Australia-HKG routes, since VA entered the market.

Compass 1, Compass 2, Stategic ...

When Compass 1 began, I was required to fly from PER to SYD once or twice a year to my HO to be re-indoctrinated, and they required me to fly Compass. The first time it was on a connection thru Adelaide on a Sunday afternoon in a half empty aircraft. At Adelaide the GP had just finished, and our aircraft soon filled up with noisy rev heads. On arrival in Sydney at around 1800, we stopped close to what is now the QF terminal, and the Captain announced that as Compass only had two gates, and both aircraft there were late departing, we would be waiting for about half an hour. Many groans ensued, and he immediately dropped the IFE screens which were in the ceiling, and played a Mr Bean video, who was new and very popular in those days. So instead of having an aircraft full of grumpy passengers, we were all rolling in the aisles and departed eventually in a good frame of mind.

I'm with the Adelaiders - QR please don't leave oneworld until I have booked my Christmas 2019 award flights!

Yes Joyce should shut up...

Sure if QR leaves they could probably cobble together some codeshare arrangements via KL/AF etc and be gouged in Qantas style for the pleasure of earning QF points/SCs...

Nah I like QR just fine in OW especially as QF usually has trouble finding anything much East of Sydney on a map....

Well I won’t fly MH so KL is out.

KL=KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, not Kuala Lumpur.
Ah. Well, only KL was posted so I assumed “via Kuala Lumpur”. KLM obviously doesn’t touch Adelaide, so it’s not on my radar. Only Qatar and the other Adelaide origin flights are. That includes MH and CX.

I think you mean West of Sydney... :)

I am giving Qatar a try in May - 4 legs on Qsuites. don’t know what they will be like, but they look closer to the mini First that Joyce was boasting about for his “Dream”liner. Looking forward to flying out of Canberra - even though you stop in Sydney, it’s a lot easier than worrying about connections and fog and cancelled flights out of Canberra. Qatar was certainly not cheap, so I don’t know what the issue is with price.
