Yes most SQ 777s have 4 seats in first class on the run from SIN-NRT-LAX. We don’t bother with book the cook. The SQ service is always good. From what kpc has said the new A380 Suite is lovely.

Impressive product, as expected, but there is room for improvement: The bed needs more padding, the seat should recline more and footrest needs to be longer. Not installing showers (at least in the bigger toilet) was huge miss for such an exclusive product. Having said that, I think most pax who tested it will agree the new suites (together with EY appartments) set the benchmark for true first class travel.

Some photos of the cabin, suite and toilet.

I flew the new F for the first time recently, I actually prefer the old F - I find the seating position in the new F to be terrible when dining (you’re basically staring straight across at the person sitting opposite you, it’s difficult to shut the door during service) and the seat recline is poor. The suite is more spacious and looks great (and I will admit the bathrooms are MUCH better) but they have to sort out the dining position.

We were on the 777 in First from SIN to NRT and copped a real guts ache. There were just the two of us in the 4 seat cabin so I was reiieved to have my own bathroom. It would have been awful on a crowded plane with very few toilets.

Had similar experience on BA couple of years ago. Was lucky to be in 1A close enough to the toilet and use it as my own. One of the unpublished perks of flying in the pointy end :p

Thats funny. We have SIN-ICN-LAX and LAX-NRT-SIN coming up, and we are still the only 2 in the 4 seat cabin. My partner said "I hope it stays that way so I dont have to share a bathroom!".

Hate to break it to you but you will share the bathroom...with the crew. They will pop into use it after they have come back from their break. On our SIN-CDG and CDG-SIN leg they seemed to use our side a little more - we were 1D and 1F so on the right facing front of plane. I was initially confused when I got up to use the bathroom and noticed it was in use and all 3 other pax were sleeping.

One thing I do notice about SQ, the crew is extremely diligent in cleaning/freshening up the F toilet after every use. The moment any pax steps out of the toilet, they’re in it to refresh the toilet. Yes, it’s quite sad I’m taking notice of such things rather than drinking them dry.

The thing I can't get used too is that if the FAs see you going to the toilet, they will rush to open the door for you....

Typical on other Asian airlines, unnecessary but it’s the little things put together to create the optimal customer service. SQ used to fold F pax clothes and later the PJs after use, I’ve noticed they don’t do that anymore. Maybe some pax felt uncomfortable with that.

I guess that is to cover a super large first class passenger who might need the door expander used.

I was keen to try out the new suites, so despite being based in Perth I made a detour via Sydney so I could fly SQ232 today on my way to London - flying old suites from SIN to LHR so I could compare them back to back.

Upon check-in this morning I found this letter on the counter.

It's a bit disappointing, but consoling myself with the fact that at least they didn't replace it with a 777-300ER - and it's miles better than the tired old 777-200 (with no first class at all) I would have otherwise flown from Perth.

Are you going to ask for some point compensation? Because you can and I dont think its unreasonable if you do.

I'm in the other camp I'm afraid. In this case F is F. Same price. No compensation. (Angled beds in business vs full flat I'd agree on seeking compensation, even though technically still the same class.)

Are you going to ask for some point compensation?

The lady at the check-in counter saw my disappointment and I explained about the detour.
She will see what she can do.

But I'm an acolyte in the @juddles school of Zen travelling so I likely won't take it further.

And after a great breakfast in the F lounge & enjoying the view over the tarmac I'm really looking forward to the flight.

Don't waste a precious second thinking of a compensation claim - you booked new R and will in fact fly old R - same class - different vintage - equip changes are a fact of life.

Back in March when I first flew the new F suites, I was very anxious that an equipment swap may occur; my anxiety was only allayed when I got onboard and saw the new suites....I feel for you and your disappointment!
