I ordered one this morning and have received the tax invoice within the usual timeframe (unlike my last experience), so I am expecting the card within a few hours.

easy to tell if orders are "normal" or "delayed"

once you order - go check the status, if it says "in progress", means the order is automated and in progress - tax invoices usually issued within 3-4 hours and you get your card shortly after

if it says "payment pending" you are out of luck. this situation requires manual intervention and can take 24-48 hours (though I must say service times have come back down now to within the 24 hour time frame after blowing out to unacceptable levels a few weeks ago).

May i summarise to see if i have this correct. assuming $100 bill.
1. buy wish card at 5% discount, by whichever way, its all roughly the same, as long as 3ppd locations
2. Use wish card to buy the only 1 visa card
3. 5.95 is the fee - $5 (5% discount) = net cost of 0.95 whilst netting 3ppd
4. when paying on the optus at0 site, you incurr another 15c
5. Overall cost is 1.10 for 3ppd.

Questions.
1. which fees are tax deductible given optimal conditions?
2. i read someone bought 500 which took 2 hours. so how long did it take to input the actual payment!!!!!
3. Strictly speaking, one would have to produce the purchase receipt of the wish card which will then show the 5% discount? therefore its actually 6.10 for 3ppd.

Ok, just recently decided to go the Amex Platinum Charge Card route and go for 3ppd and transfer to a range of airlines rather than direct earn...

So i used the 5% off Woolies egift card to buy a $100 Only1 visa prepaid gift card, well 3 actually to cover a $233 Synergy electricity bill, left them the 24 hours to activate and then went online tonight to try and pay it off in 3 installments of 2 x $100 plus the last card...

Enter in all the details and press to pay and comes up with "Sorry your payment is declined"... Same after another attempt... Go online to check Visa gift card is activated and it says it is... I obviously thought this was going to be a bit more straight forward...

Without reading through all the thread, are the Visa gift cards not quite as usable as i thought they might be or am i doing something wrong... The Synergy site even lists Visa debits as one of the card types it charges a surcharge on... Any advice on if they are only accepted in a limited number of places and does it laboriously involve trial and error at various companies sites to figure this out or do direct phone calls to pay bills sometimes get a better result??

I have found the visa 1 cards are good for most online places but not all. I have found the Coles Mastercard prepaid cards seem to work overseas as well. I have only tried the visa 1 cards at a couple of overseas online sellers with mixed results

Does synergy charge any surcharge? This would need to be deducted from the $100.

Try again with $99.99 or $99.

I'm paying a $4k bill where they charge 0.4% so each card becomes $99.60, rather than the full $100.

I've had no other issues

Synergy Charges 0.4708% surcharge for payment by credit card.

Suggest you try a payment of $99.53 and see if that works.
If it does it means they are charging the surcharge at the time of each payment.

If first payment worked use second card for $99.53.
The last payment would be $34.10.

Total paid would be $234.10 ($233 bill plus $1.10 surcharges).
If bill is $233 plus some cents you will need to adjust 3rd payment accordingly.

Hope this works for you.

Just a heads up, the Platinum Charge Card earns 3 points per $ at restaurants only. The Platinum Edge earns 3 points per $ at supermarkets.

I would personally avoid applying for a tax deduction. It 'could' be very complicated and the points are dirt cheap anyway

Ok, tried it for $99.53 and it was successful, thanks folks.. Little wrinkle that didn't cross my mind... :)

Faith restored... Went to a few Woollies to buy these $100 1Only cards or similar and lots of $50 but only a smattering of $100s, was going to ask an attendant if they had any out the back but reading through the thread are people buying lots of them up before a slight increase in the purchase fee/surcharge??

And yes i have the Platinum Edge card, after i wrote the above I thought should i check exactly what sort of card it is to be precise, so yes seem to be getting the 3ppd at Woolies... Ok, off to pay some more bills... :)

There has been no fee increase for the VISA ONLY cards as far as I am aware.

There was a $1 increase for theperfectgiftcard which occurred towards the end of 2017.

By the way I had been mulling over trying to earn extra points by being a Local Champion at one of my close by Woollies but then logically thinking it out it means you have to use your card at the store rather than buy the 5% of egift cards through Cash Rewards etc... Has anyone thought through whether the Local Champion thing is worth pursuing or i usually take the view that cash in pocket in most cases trumps points unless you are desperate for the points...

Another vote for the 5% discount over 1.22 additional MR points
I focus my Local Champ on a single Coles store which sometimes helps when there is a giftcard offer

I like these cards, just hate that they don't have higher values.
