Have just booked a QR J fare ADL-LHR return,

Am I better to credit to a new QR account, or to my QF account?

Don't need the SC's for QF but the points might be handy.

Not sure what value the QR points would be, as in how far they might get me on say a Y booking.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would not bother with Qatar's program.

Perhaps look at crediting to QF or AA?

If it helps, type in your fare class here to see how many points you'd earn in each program: Where to Credit | How Many Miles | Every Frequent Flyer Program

Beware that some fare classes may not earn points with all programs.
I credit my QR flights (all business, R and I class) to my British Airways (BAEC) account. Quickest and easiest way to maintain One World Emerald status (BAEC Gold).

Qantas treats many Qatar flights with disdain, and it's somewhat harder to attain QF Platinum status using QR flights. So I won't be renewing my QF Platinum status, but what's the downside (especially if you don't fly JQ)?
