Sorry, but this statement is wrong and is poor advice that will not help anyone, and certainly did not help the writer as they did not even use it. It will provide NO leverage and if anyone quoted it it would just highlight to Amex that the applicant was not entitled to the sign on bonus. Instead if you strike out hang up and call again later and trya different CSR. Definitely do not flag it with Amex that you are not entitled.

Would it be any different for you if you were to receive this promotion in the mail, addressing you personally ('Hi ovetravellingoz, we have a special offer for you ...'), with the same small print? I guess you would feel pretty mislead. For me, it's not any different from online promotions. They serve up this offer to logged-in users and rather than changing the promotion terms (no bonus points) or not allowing the promotion to show up at all, they decide to hide behind small print. My advice to screen cap the initial promo screen showing you're logged in when you applied is no different from a general recommendation to keep a copy of an offer addressed to you personally, sent via post.

I don't think it would make any difference. The information about your history with them is still going to be in their system and presumably the same terms of the offer apply to offers made by mail.

How long after meeting the spend criteria do you normally receive the points,mine came instantly but my partners been waiting a week.The CSR said 8-10 weeks but this seems ridicolous.Is there a way of hurrying it up?

Mine have always been within a day or two of reaching the target.

Guys - just wanted to share my experience. I had a Platinum Charge (which I was going to cancel anyway) and applied for the Explorer. After reading this thread, I called AMEX to de-link the rewards program from the Charge.

Whilst the de-linking was processed, the CSR did not register my explorer into the other rewards program. The de-linking does NOT automatically register you in the other rewards program - you need to make sure to remind the CSR to do this otherwise your purchases won't accrue points and (I assume) the likelihood of a sign up bonus will be diminished. I am not sure whether I will get that at all, even if I spend another $1500 but we shall see.

Just ring them, get them to confirm your eligibility and then kindly ask them if they can prioritise the points for you. I told them I had my eyes on a redemption flight and was hoping to book asap.
I did this and got the points in a matter of hours (and then transferred them out).

I was told my partner ineligble due to having the velocity escape card which she didnt even receive bonus for when she first got it.told them she would cancel it and i would cancel my Platinum Charge and explorer and they didnt really care

Maybe try again with a different CSR. When I rang to cancel my Platinum Charge, the CSR told me "oh, the computer won't let me cancel the card until I make you an offer of 23,000 MR points for you stay" but I wanted to cancel anyway and 23,000 was not going to offset the $1200 annual fee. So, my point is there are incentives they're willing to offer. I have heard calling late in the evening in Australia to get an international call centre can sometimes work in your favour.

Last month I got only 20k for a referral instead of the 30k I otherwise would have because 30k would have taken me over the 200k cap. This is all on one card that I have only had this year so not sure about second part of your question.

I was coming here to thank whomever recently used my Explorer referral - 30K posted to my account a few days ago. I just received an email from Amex telling me I had received it, and it has the amount of referral points I have received this year listed - so they definitely track it now if they didn't in the past. (no need for people to stop using my link yet )

Actually I have just been informed by customer service that the cap is per card account . So it would help to have a different link for each card . I have asked them to send me an email to confirm the same .

I've technically crossed 200k, am sitting on 230k in total referral points so can confirm its 200k per card as I have the edge and explorer and have referred people to both
