I liked the 'exclusivity' of the BW World. With the drop to 0.66pts/$, it was the only good thing left.

I dropped into a Bankwest branch last week and asked for my Platinum card to be upgraded to World. They organised it on the spot and it arrived today - so easy! Thanks for the tip :)

No bonus points for you then? Wondering if worth asking them when I did my upgrade

Yes, world is $270pa, but I just got upgraded from Platinum and they said that I don't pay the A$270 until card renewal time, so no pro-rata charge from date of upgrade to annual renewal, which is good as I only got the $160pa Platinum in mid October 2016...

Hope this helps.

Brilliant! is that at a 1p;$1 spend or the .66 as per the Qantas card?

only getting .5 on hsbc at moment with a 50k/month spend minimum. so looking for a 1;1 card only visa or m'card.

Thanks,
Cove

It runs 0.66 points per dollar on all expenses and it has fair international exchange rates. They don't mulch on a big user so $50 k does not cause their computer to stop the card. Mrscove has run up many points on this one.

cove ... "mulch"? Welch? :D

Yes Welch versus turning your points into manure. I guess Welch is a better word GMOH in this case. Can I claim champagne effect for that one?

Renege would probably be a word I could have used. Anyway Bankwest World has been a winner for our family.
Naturally it hurt when they dropped to 0.66 earn rate per dollar.

. . . SPG is only good for Asia and was a real pain to organise as SPG and the Bank could not agree on who responsible to organise, and only for 1 year too.

I have the Commonwealth Bank version of the World MasterCard and I'm interested in this benefit (in fact, it's probably the only benefit I find, well, beneficial).

Does anyone have any recent experience with activating it? Does it really only last for one year or does it actually run the remainder of the year you activate it, plus the following year?

I'm also curious about the qualifying stay needed to activate the offer. I wonder if an SPG stay booked through World MasterCard is an eligible stay for this purpose. Two separate WMC agents have told me on email that it does but I think they aren't understanding my question. I think they're reckon I'm asking whether or not a stay booked through WMC would count for SPG benefits. Both have said yes. Extrapolating that, though, would suggest that if it's eligible for SPG benefits it's an eligible stay to activate the Gold offer.

I ended up using the Westpac World MasterCard and less than two weeks after the stay my SPG account was upgraded to Gold - through February 2019! If the status match across to Marriott goes just as well then I suspect I will have found a replacement for Hyatt's World of Hurt. The SPG/Marriott merger, however, may change things.

What was the "code" you used for Westpac Black to register? (from memory you need to enter a code on the website and I gave up finding what it was after calling Westpac a couple of times to no avail)

There's no code. To verify your eligibility there's a link to a third party website where you enter your World MasterCard credit card details.
