SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Looking at booking flights to Hong Kong in October. Any tips on minimum transit time in Changi. Expecting anything in the 2-3 hour range should be fine, accounting for any slight delays, gate transfers etc.

Or am I being naive?

GarrettM - 2-3 hours is perfect for Changi, especially if you haven't been there before. Plenty of things to do!

If you are flying J or F/R, add a bit more time because the SKL is worth a visit!

Thanks. No J sadly. With a two year old it won't be worth the cost.

Don't want to put up a question before I do some research for the answer first so will just ask, is there a thread about rules surrounding waitlisting awards etc at all? Haven't been able to find one as yet.

What sort of rules? I'd just go ahead and ask the question :).

how difficult was it to add the bub, and how outrageous was the ticket cost?

Hey the ticket cost 390 Aud for per-sin J and sin-hnd in F.

I wanted F out of hnd but would cost aud 850. So ended up using my Virgin points to book kix-sin-per.

Oh btw virgin will ticket infant free on award seat so just a tip! Book infant with your misssus using velocity!

I think there is a thread re: waitlist. Otherwise you can search this thread or even suite saver thread as there's lots of talk in there re: waitlist for suites.

...or just ask. No one bites here and I hardly see replies with the typical "see the search button? use it" comment.

Sorry have a few questions.
So you booked KIX-SIN-PER using velocity miles to fly on SQ metal?
Is it redeemed at 1.35va:1kf?
Can you only do this for Y & J seats? or can you use it for F and R?

Hey I used velocity points to book on sq metal. You can only get Y and J, no F/R redemptions on Sq using velocity miles.

I collect kf/velocity but will drop kf from now on with the devaluation

The business class lounge isn't worth extra time to visit. Any connection (same ticket) with an hour between flights is more than enough time to disembark and walk slowly to the next gate.

separate tickets... 2-3 hours is good.

Posting this one again - this thread moves faster than people chasing bargains at the Boxing Day sales!!! ;)

Quick question for the SQ gurus.

Made a booking direct with SQ - all good. Needed to change the return date. Did so, paid the change fee and printed off new tickets. Just noticed that the return date is showing as the new return date (ie 4 April), however the 'Not Valid After' date is still showing as 28 March.

Is this going to be an issue? Haven't come across it before......

Thanks so much in advance.

Cheers, Suz

Suzie if you go into 'Manage Bookings' and open up your booking is the correct dep date showing? If it is you have nothing to be concerned about - if not call KF imm. Either way I would call and ask them to explain the discrepancy - not out of cerncern but just because I love to find out all the intracacies re SQ bootkings I can.

Thank Cruiser. Appreciate the response. Return date is correct (showing 4 April as per changed). Will give SQ a call tomorrow & advise response. Thanks again. Suz

i've called SIA office again to redeem an award flight (SYD-SIN-HKG) for Mar/Apr 2018 before the new redemption rules kicks in, but due to the dates (Apr 2018) i wanted to fly on the 2nd segment (SIN-HKG) is not open for booking yet, i asked her what will be my options, the agent told me ticket is valid for 1 year from the booking date, but it will be 'extended' for another year after the SYD-SIN segment is utilized in Mar 2018, pushing SIN-HKG segment to Mar 2019, which means i've to call to change the SIN-HKG segment after March 2018.. hopefully that's the case.. :)

Thanks Mel. It'll be same ticket. Timing as much about giving bub a little run around to break up flights as anything else. Better for all concerned.

Can someone remind of d day for change in redemption pricing? Next week? Contemplating a speculative Syd-lhr.

And has anyone run the numbers of increases in points vs drop of fuel tax in F/R?

It's for bookings after the 23rd and the rough calc was SQ is paying you 1.2c per point.

That sounds pretty strange to me. So you can change the flight after flying from SYD to SIN? Who's to say there will be availability to change the SIN-HKG leg ?

yes, that's what the agent told me and she checked with her supervisor 3 times ! coz i told her i only planned to fly the SIN-HKG in Apr 2018.. SIN-HKG leg availability is not that hard to get, so im not that worried.. unlike the SIN-FRA-SFO.. but again, i will call them again tonight to check..

Ok perfect will do.

So I understand that you need to have the required number of miles in your account to waitlist a booking. Ok no problem. What happens if you then go and make another confirmed booking which takes your mile balance below what is required for the waitlist?

For example:
I will want to book JFK-SIN-SYD/MEL in suites but seems there will be a high probability of having to waitlist it. I would be willing to travel the same route in J so can I book it with the intention of cancelling if the waitlist in Suites clears? I will have enough miles for the R booking but not for both.

Waitlist what you want while you have the required points then book the confirmed flight (which then takes the points). Waitlist a few days if you have the flexibility. Then if/when one of the waitlisted opens up I believe you can just cancel the confirmed J and take the waitlisted F. The points come back pretty quickly when cancelling and I think you have at least a day to accept waitlist so all should work out fine. Maybe they can do it all in one go if you call? I haven't done the last part so not sure on those specifics.
