I've really been struggling to figure this out from available information so wanted to see if the collective AFF wisdom had any experience with this.

Delta "Main Cabin" within the US of course doesn't have a free checked baggage allowance, nor does it state on your reservation how many bags you are entitled to check due to elite status or allow you to pre-purchase checked bags.

VFF's site suggests that the Platinum baggage allowance is the same as Delta Gold Medallion. Delta's site states this is two bags - but that it also extends to up to 8 additional travel companions. So theoretically I would think that a travel party of 4 including a Velocity Platinum would have up to 8 bags checked for free, right? But it doesn't appear like I have any way to confirm this until check in.

Do any Velocity Platinums / Golds that have flown recently with Delta know how this works?

I always check 2 bags myself.

Each member of your party on the same PNR will also get 2 bags. If VA Platinum, not sure about Gold

Enjoy your trip.

Flown a lot of Delta, some Main cabin some Comfort+. Only ever have one bag but never gave it a thought. Unrelated note but was recently staggered to purchase 'First' on United and discover had to pay extra for one checked bag - and that's as a status-matched Avianca Gringo-very-importanto !!!
