So in summing up, booking direct with SQ still gets you the same status credits, same points (providing its the correct fare class) and the option to upgrade. What it wont get you is 'sectors'

yes, except for the part about same points. you don't get the any frequent flyer points bonuses triggered by VA status (i.e. 50% for silver, 75% for gold, 100% for plat), as you would when booking with VA ticket
