I personally am an unabashed Moët drinker / enjoyer - along with Mumm, Taittinger, Veuve, Ayala, Lanson and Bollinger - those 6 labels are always in my cellar - I was so happy to see Tommy express his reservations about Billecart earlier - my taste buds just don't rate that drop - all above readily and regularly buyable sub $50 - a price that is appealing to me to have open bar policy in our house - wanna Champers? - anybody can come share a bottle or 3 with us anytime.

So again open ended request to anybody who has contrary views on Moët - or indeed others listed - what do you rate higher - input from 'experts' warmly welcomed.

CE - I think it's just a case of different taste buds.

Moet Chandon is a little dryer on the palate than some of the other NVs. Hence there is a fan club and non-fan club. I actually quite enjoy Moet, but as always, it depends on my mood.

My rough personal ratings of the $50 NVs (dependent on mood, etc):

Band 1 - "Always in stock"
Taittinger / Bollinger / Veuve / Billecart Salmon / Perrier Jouet

Band 2 - "Usually in stock"
Mumm / Moet / Ayala / Delamotte / Duval-Leroy

Band 3 - "Buy when on sale"
Lanson / Duperrey / Nicolas Feuillatte / Charles Heidsieck

FWIW, This list has evolved over time, and continues to evolve with regular taste tastings. I tend not to go out of my way for band 3, but will happily grab them on a good sale.

Please let me know where one can find Charles Heidsieck in the $50 band? Please.

*Roughly $50

A few on the list are closer to $70, and a few are closer to $30.

Charles Heidsieck is one of those Champagnes, which to my taste, is quite different between the air and ground also.

Of course it is - hence the 'experts' reference - and what Tommy asked - I'll hand you $600 Friday night - call me when you get the CH ok cobber? At least you posted some suggestions / preferences so I guess I'll still talk to you.

50% margin for error...

But whichever Champers any of you guys prefer just bear in mind Dr Ralph's posting re the Big W Wish Cards to go on sale Thur - 10% disc + CR / PP rebate means we will all be enjoying our preferred Champs at reasonable prices post Thur - enjoy.

But who is selling them??

Right you are Mr O. I have amended.

And as usual you are definitely right Uppy - time for some Champagne all round I think...

The Piper price can be lowered considerably more if the Big W Gift Cards that go on sale today at Big W are useable at Dan's - add CR/PP and you can take a further ~14% of the listed price. I will go visit a Big W store pre lunch today and just make sure of useability of cards on offer at Dan's.

Edit: I have just visited a Big W store to physically inspect Big W Gift Card - nowhere on card does it state useable across ALL WW chains - I am not doubting Dr Ralph's posting that he has indeed used them at Dan's - I would just urge caution for those waiting - I was going to have a serious lick at these but think further research warranted.

Taittinger is $47.40 across any 6 at Dan's at the moment, grabbed a case for good measure. They have a free delivery on their eBay site but prices are higher. Added a bottle of Campari to make up the order, so the aperetif's are covered too, which puts it over the $300 free delivery threshold.

Other bubbles and various appear to be reasonably priced.

Secret Champagne is the Louis Martin 2008 Blanc de Blanc, which is frankly an overrated drop for that price. Not sure if that has been covered upthread.
