SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I came back from LHR on SIA yesterday and received a very nice present to commemorate my millionth mile with them, which was a pleasant surprise. I cannot imagine that happening on Emirates or Etihad.

I also heard a story about a passenger who guzzled a bottle of champagne and then proceeded to tell everyone how the Business Class crew are prettier than the First Class crew and then boasted about that online, can anyone point me towards a link? It sounds like it is now in textbook of things crew need to be prepared to know how to deal with.

Congrats Abdul!

Obviously not an AFF member...it would take more than one bottle for these seasoned Krisflyers.

Anyone booked an award seat for a child online? Trying to book an award flight MEL-SIN award with adult and child but the system won't go beyond the home page. Do I just book the child as an adult and put correct details in passenger information?

Just had my last SQ flights of a December/January trip to Europe confirmed and had a slightly strange occurrence.

I wanted to fly from PER-SIN-MLE with a stopover in SIN, as you cannot do this online I called up. PER-SIN no Problem as it matched what was available online SIN-MLE had everything waitlisted according to the agent but plenty of days available online.

So I booked PER-SIN-MLE without a stopover on my preferred SIN-MLE date then just called back and asked to add a stopover and push the PER flight forward a few days.

Seemed a bit odd that the website was showing more availability than what the agents could see.

All ticketed no problem with just the $100 USD stopover payment required.

Anyway now our flights are all locked in:
SQ214 PER-SIN B772 J
SQ452 SIN-MLE B772ER J
EY279 MLE-AUH J A321 (but it looks like this is usually a A332 so fingers crossed)
EY11 AUH-LHR A388 Apartments (If availability on EY19 shows up I will probably switch over for the more civilised departure and arrival time)
SQ345 ZRH-SIN A388 Suites
SQ223 SIN-PER B772 J ( I have a waitlist for SQ215 to give us some more TPR time)

Grand total 390,150 VA points transferred to 289,000 KF miles plus 80,000 AA Miles bought in the promo earlier in the year.

Taxes and fees came to approx $2,000 and the AA miles were about the same so $4,000 AUD for 2 people all told. Not free but definitely Premium cabins at Economy prices :)

Just booked my first F seat for 2 x pax IAH to SYD.. Not my first choice of routes but needed to get my daughter home on particular day with me from USA.

Looking forward to the trip. Hoping the onboard service is a pleasant as the booking process and subsequent call centre queries

I've never booked a child award seat, only ever called up to add an infant to an award booking. But I did just do a dummy award booking for 1x adult and 1x child and it seemed like it would work (page came up to enter passenger details for the adult and then the child).

That's a long way home!

I'm still keeping an eye out with my LAX-NRT-SIN-MEL x J booking, hoping I can either get F or find a quicker way home but not sure there is.

Considering I have a fair time between arriving in SYD before my SQ flight, am I able to check into my flight whilst checkin for an earlier flight is open? I.e. earlier than 3 hours before my flight?

i've always collected points but never used them (i currently have ~250k).
Thinking of upgrading to business class (or at least premium economy) on a trip in the next couple of weeks.

What is the best way to ensure there is upgrade availability before I book an economy flexi which allows upgrades
If no availability I'd rather save $$ and go economy flexi saver

Yep, pretty sure you can. If it's on the same booking, though, both will be checked in at once.

I wouldn't upgrade with KF points. It's quite poor value. Better to just book a J or R/F seat outright.

Thanks, i managed to do it - must be a problem with using the browser on my phone - i booked through my desktop without an issue.

Have just flown in the new SQ PE.

It is a nice size cabin laid out 2 -4 - 2. If you like window seats then it pays to note that there is a large gap between the seat and the window, meaning no leaning.

IFE is massive - 13.3 inches I think I read and HD. Best screen I've experienced but not touch screen which you instinctively go to do.

Active noise cancelling king head phones were provided and did the job.

I don't like the placement of the cabin on the A380 though. It's behind the galley behind Suites and in front of Y. This means no dedicated bathroom and having to move back through the first Y cabin.

Also - it's smack bang on top of the bassinet row so stick to the first 2-3 rows for minimum noise. We had 3 screaming babies so considerable noise.

Food - did not use Book the Cook and lunch was an enjoyable pad Thai and usual ice cream. I was a little disappointed as I thought the food offering was a little lackluster. I asked for a snack at some point and only offering was nuts.

Was provided an amenity kit that contained socks and a toothbrush - a bit of a why bother to be honest.

Now the seat - nice size, liked the footrest and leg rest and storage. Did I enjoy sitting in the seat for 7.5 hours - no! I found it hard going on my back.

Have just flown in the new SQ PE.

Very similar to my boss's thoughts, which really disappointed me because I had high hopes for SQ PE and it seems there is a deep dark side of them that wants it to fail. A toilet would have been a big plus to the cabin and my boss complained that his wine was still served in a plastic cup so its also the little things as well.

Im flying an A380 in 3 weeks time, Im hoping on taking a wander to check them out for myself

For anyone interested, I was told today that a stopover is not possible for one way Star Alliance saver awards - the US $100 fee is only for one way SQ awards.
I tried to get SYD-xSIN-NRT in SQ R, then a week later NRT-LAX on ANA F.
It was priced as two awards - the guy on the phone had to speak with a supervisor and call back half an hour later to confirm.

Just found this now (page 13) :(
https://www.singaporeair.com/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/guides/KF_ProgrammeGuide.pdf

Annoyingly enough the NRT-LAX on SQ R for the dates I require, is showing as waitlisting only.

So it's either 80.75k + 100k, which is nowhere as good as the 127.5k that I was hoping, or if I can get SQ R the whole way, 119k miles :(

This is in contrast to:

So how do you get anytime access at MEL SKL F - try this:

image.jpeg

Chocolate speaks all languages - 1 SQ staff member on entry desk and 2 AAG ladies in lounge - sometimes 3 - so take 4 with you if 1 spare leave for Rita - Rita is long standing 'king pin' SQ MEL staff. If I want something done - call Rita.

So what does Usain Bolt do before an Olympics final? Simple - he warms up with practice before the main event right?

Same same SQ F - in lounge you warm up with Moet before the main event Krug onboard!

OT but it involves the 2 AAG ladies working in MEL SQ SKL today. Neither of the 2 angels in question - Tracey and Rosetta - have ever flown internationally before but on April 5 they are off to coughet for a week. I asked do they get Lounge access and response was 'Damn right!'

They plan running amok in SKL F prior to boarding - Tracel said she is staying awake 'all flight' because she snores and doesn't want to annoy fellow pax - I set her straight on that. Gotta love this story don't you - again it reminds me to never ever forget how fortunate I am to lead the life of pointy end travel that I do.
