SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Heads up that SQ222 SYD-SIN has been changed from 77W to A388 (for my booking in April 2016 anyway). Was looking forward to trying the new J on the 77WN so hopefully it will change back between now and then.

From April 2016 it looks like MEL will be getting 3 x 77W flights and 1 x 772 and SYD will have 2 x A388 and one each of 773, 772. BNE still on 3 x A333 schedule.

Before this MEL had 1 each of 773, 772, A388 and 77W daily.

I had a look at my booking at both the FRA-SIN and SIN-SYD are set as "waitlisted". I thought the second SIN-SYD would be confirmed, despite there being availability at the time, and now me searching again for that segment by itself being available as a saver award.

I do have a OW backup booking so if I don't get it I'm not too fussed, but should I book the SIN-SYD by itself so I have that confirmed now? Or can I ring and ask them to confirm the second segment?

I'd confirm what I can (SIN SYD) and call up to remove the waitlisted same while keeping the FRA SIN unchanged.

Good luck !

Always good to have a backup plan as it is not certain the waitlist will be cleared.

Ha. I booked flights for April earlier this week and I was debating between the two planes, I picked the A388 (earlier flight) as its not something we fly often but I struggled with the decision over the 77W.

Seems it was meant to be as I just checked our departure/planes available and the 77W is no longer available.

Yeah I was quite chuffed to have secured 11A and 11K on the 77W, then it got changed to an A388. I've now chosen 18D,18F- middle bulkhead seats at the front of the larger J cabin. From the seat map on SQ site this looks like the older A388 configuration with a small economy section at the rear of the upper deck.

I think that configuration is the one they added the PE to.

I selected the same seats and yes, its the older configuration with PE on the lower deck and about 80 Y on the top deck rear.

Anyone tried 96A/96K on the all J class upper deck A388, thoughts? I'm 6'3" so any extra space is always appreciated.
Also SQ 346, sleeper service from SIN-ZUR - would this mean a light supper meal and a full breakfast?

96A/K is a good seat - you get the extra foot room as you don't cubbyhole into the seat in front.

A friend of mine sat in 96A , loved it, said it was very private with excellent service (with crew on their way to/from the galley). Galley noise was not an issue.

Good to hear :)

Never done the ZHR flight which leaves a little later than the MUC flight which has always had the full meal service. I have done 96A from LHR the only disadvantage with all the bench seat foot well seats inc 11 A/ K on the 77W is the IFE screen is a little further away from you compared to the standard seat. The back if the bus is always quiter so you should be able to move seats if you need to. Enjoy

My SQ Trip and Tale today ... On SQ 217, had allocated myself 72C, economy aisle seat upstairs on the A380 (always aisle on medium to long haul in Y). At boarding my BP beeped and was handed a new handwritten BP. Moved 2 rows further forward to a window seat. The flight was full, but this was first time this has happened to me on a SQ medium haul flight and was quite surprised.

SIN-ZRH flight has full meal service + hot breakfast + snacks available mid flight. It's not like the much shorter late night "supper" flights to AU/JP etc.

Did you check out who was in your original seat?

Did you check out who was in your original seat?

No. There was a curtain at the back of my row that precluded me from seeing who was there.

I'll come clean. 2 rows forward of row 72 is row 27. And the window seat is also an aisle seat so I was very happy. But still quite surprised as that doesn't happen very often on medium-long haul. I think spouse solitaire travelling on flexi saver fare may have helped a bit!
