I wouldn't read much into the comments of any CEO on the services of their competitors, these will always be somewhat biassed.

But the point that Auckland is just as viable as a transit point as Sydney for MEL/BNE flyers is a perfectly valid one.
 
No, Auckland is a MORE viable transit point than Sydney for Brisbane and Melbourne (and Cairns and Adelaide) passengers.

No baggage reclaim.

No customs.

No terminal change.
 
You're probably right, but the terminal change at Sydney is just too painful. And the Brisbane International Qantas Club is worse than the terminal!
