Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
We still have A330s being remodeled and some coast-to-coast flights paying the price for it combined with redeployment on the golden triangle.
A possibility might be that the B787s would be used as domestic relief or significantly busy services, sort of the role of the B767 before the latter was retired completely. Maybe the A330s plying the coast-to-coast may be similarly replaced with such services, freeing up the A330s for other uses, e.g. international.
On the other hand, if A330s are retained for coast-to-coast and B787s are used to boost up domestic services, then a bunch of free B737s as a result would either boost lighter service routes (e.g. the newly created MEL/OOL), or perhaps create new ones.
It would be interesting if QF venture into new (or rekindled) international destinations.
No one, of course, knows what kind of product(s) / configuration will be installed on the B787s. I guess the options are, for J:
- Skybed series, possibly bespoke configuration for the 787
- Business Suite, possibly bespoke modelling for the 787
- Recaro PE-style (100% compatible with Jetstar)
Like the A330, I don't see PE being installed and there is only one carrier in the world with 787s (as far as I know) that don't have a 3-3-3 configuration with slimline seats in Y.
