Just saw on the Amex site this week that the sydney airport express path lane on departure can now be used by just flashing your amex plat charge card.

Can anyone confirm that they've used this perk without issue?

An article can be found regarding the change that started this week

http://www.ausbt.com.au/american-express-cardholders-get-fast-track-lane-at-sydney-airport

Also if you log into your platinum/centurion acount and go to lounges - you will find this under that tab

As a Platinum Card Member, you and your Supplementary Card Members can enjoy access to the Express Path lane at Sydney International Airport T1, when travelling on an airline ticket or frequent flyer status that does not already provide this benefit. Express Path streamlines your travels by allowing you priority access through immigration and security so you can continue your trip sooner. All you need to do is present your Platinum Card and boarding pass at the Express Path entry to fast track through outbound immigration and security screening.

Express Lane? Is this an alternative to the Fast Track lane which no longer exists? (yesterday I walked to the baggage departure lanes and asked the officer "where is the Fast Track lane?". He advised that there isn't one - you simply use Red Declare). As in "I declare I have a Fast Track Pass".

I think it is on exit, not entry and the fast track still exists for this

I should probably have been clearer. Its the express path lane when you depart not when entering ( they got rid of that along time ago).

The perk is more relevant for other supp holders than main holder - because usually main holder would already hold elite status at one of the airlines.

It's referring to the "Express Path" entrance for departure immigration.

Centurion and Platinum charge card members are eligible. Bank-issued cards are not.

There is no express/fast track lane to exit SYD International anymore. I even saw two QF pilots who couldn't believe they had to wait in the normal queue and started waving to the quarantine officer who told them to get into the queue somewhere...(ad hoc fast track :p)

Seems pretty clear to me

To recap the thread. This is about departures not arrivals.

? Including the lowly Platinum Edge card

Ah .. OK, now I get it. I thought it was about 'departures' from the 'Arrivals' hall :) ... as in ... going landside.

Would the OP be able to provide a link, please?

Which makes me wonder why the cabin crew are still handing out Fast Track cards on the plane. I guess so you've got one when you fly back out again.

If I recall correctly, at SYD International arrivals there is still an express/fast track for immigration (not needed if you are using the smart gate) but there is no express/fast track for customs.

I'm going to guess that it costs American Express money for each passenger that uses it - because under the terms (in my account - not a public link):

If the Platinum Card Member has been issued an Express Path ticket by the airline, on the basis of airline ticket or frequent flyer status, then that airline issued Express Path ticket must be used and the American Express Platinum Card may not be used to access Express Path.

A couple of nights ago the CSM was handing out incoming immigration and Ebola forms. She had a bunch of express arrivals cards and I had forgotten and asked for one. She explained Declare and Nothing to Declare lanes which I had momentarily forgotten.

Not sure why they are still carrying express arrivals cards. She mentioned something about not using SmartGate?
