Velocity point has suddenly become a very valuable currency! It now has access to 2 of the world's best first class. Assuming you have enough velocity points, for a trip to LHR, we can choose either Etihad apartment or SQ suite.

For SYD to LHR on EY apartment you'll need 187.5k points one way plus taxes only (usually <$100). On SQ suite, one way you'll need 116.25k KF points = 157k VA points + fuel surcharge (usually $3-400). A difference of 30000 points but also a difference of $300 in fuel surcharge.

Which one one would you prefer to be on?

When did they join with Qantas :D

I think you are just being sarcastic! From most sources (Skytrax, airlineratings...etc) you will constantly see SQ and EY rank on the top spot, and almost all sources put them in top 5. Qantas rarely makes it to top 5, sometimes top 10 but not always. I know it is subjective, but I can't imagine anyone won't enjoy either EY or SQ first class.

The other biggest problem with Qantas first class is, even if Velocity did join Qantas, the chances of using points to get on it is nearly zero.......

I have yet to enjoy the first class lounge in SYD (in my coming trip with JAL first class next Feb) so can't comment on that. But I heard good review about it so very looking forward to it. But that is off topic! We are not here to discuss about Qantas. This is VA thread!

SQ for purely subjective reasons, all that space and I like the Singbot-method of customer service.
To the person who joked about QF, 22" width just isn't enough to be classed as "world's best" F.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would use it for Etihad. Their F class is now the best product out there. Ahead of SQ in my opinion.

To me the EY apartment is miles better value for thos epoints/co-pays.

I'm amazed it's redeemable by points (runs off to check VA points balance......)

SOLD, I have the points for the return with EY, and having fallen in love with their service I'm there!!! The new Apartments in first on the A380 are I'm told stunning, from a colleague who just used them on Monday AUH to LHR.

Online? Or is this a phone VFF thing as I can't see F online?

To check Etihad availability, you need to go to Etihad's website and select "booking with miles". Do your search and whatever "Guest Seat" you can see (in this case, look for "Guest First" on A380) is available to velocity customer. Once you see availability then call Velocity to get it booked. Occasionally (it happened to me once) you will get some bad agent that has no idea and will tell you s/he can't see the award space. Don't waste time telling him/her that you can see in Etihad guest as s/he will give you a lecture how they have different inventory which is all bulls**t. Just HUACA and you will be fine.

Note, only guest seat, not open seat.

Here is the link if anyone has trouble finding the 'booking with miles' page on Etihad's website: Book flights with Etihad Guest Miles

You may be confusing it with the Residence. Only accessible via EY guest as an openseat (so not reward).

OK, I see the 'Guest First' seats available .. only ex/to MEL on B777 available as far as I can see (or on the dates I've tried, Nov/Dec this year). These would all be First Suite seats wouldn't they? Not Apartment?

Not that I would be complaining, but the web site makes them look a lot like EK's First Suite, but with less bling and no shower.

Apartment to/from SYD from 1st July on A380. That has shower and is bigger than EK suite.
