I booked a couple of inter island flights yesterday via the HA website. The site defaulted to AUD currency, so I switched it to USD. The difference was considerable, with the AUD exchange at 0.89591. Booking in USD (with the 28 Degree MC) gave a rate of 0.93795.

Hopefully, a useful tip for some.

Useful for me, thanks.

I expect we will see this type of thing much more common in the future, not just with airlines. If a web site recognises you are in Australia, they can present the costs in AUD hoping you will accept it and they make a nice margin on the currency exchange for their "service". Certainly something to keep an eye open for.

It pays to check both. Sometimes the AUD amount is actually the cheaper amount... but this isn't too common.
