Hertz Mystery Premium Vehicle

Guys,
looking at hiring a Hertz Mystery Premium vehicle.
descriptive is 5 pax and 2 Large suit cases.

has anyone hired this type of vehicle of late, if you have what vehicle was it.
hire will be ex Sydney

It would need to say prestige if that was the case.

Pretty sure it does say that. A quick check if both Melbourne downtown and SYD - both show Mystery Prestige but not Mystery Premium.

Price isn't very good though - a few dollars cheaper than a 320i and about $20 more than a 118i!

Neverlate, Hertz no longer have any Mercs.
 
I would think you'd get something north of a Holden SV6 to what markis reckons, something from the Prestige range. Just to place your feet firmly on the ground though, I point out that the following vehicle fits your description as well.

The SV6 is the premium vehicle, however I think the OP has got Prestige and Premium mixed up as its showing Prestige mystery at SYD for this weekend. As per AdMels post its poor value.

It's laughable that they include the 118i in the Prestige category.
The 320i is a good car but the only real Prestige options are the X5 and the RX which I don't see anymore.
 
Kind of OT but I rented from Hertz last week for a day. When I returned the car they found a ding in the driver's door and pinged me for it. I can't remember if it was there when I picked up the car as I had skimmed the car and the car appeared fine. The ding looked like another door had opened into it, probably 2cm long, no paint damage, just a slight dent, not noticeable unless you are looking at it from different angles. I wasn't happy so I disputed the damage and we'll see where it leads to. No doubt they would want to get their $$ from me - easy money. Can someone tell me if Hertz company works, are they franchises? If thats the case, I'd love to be an owner of one and ping every tiny dent and get $$$ for it.
 
That's an interesting business model.

On a side note, a friend was parked at a Westfield last week when the trolley collector let one roll into his car, leaving a sizable dent. They suggested he go to the paintless dent removal bloke whose business is inside the Westfield carpark. Friend was happy with the repair which took an hour or two and $200 which Westfield paid. The trolley-man is probably on commission. ;)

Where did you rent from? Hertz Australia is a mix of corporate locations (airport and CBD generally) and some franchised locations (generally suburbs). When you check a location on the Hertz website, one of the things it displays is whether it is corporate or franchisee/licensee. I've never had a damage issue with their corporate locations (can't recall renting from a hertz franchise). Most damage issues seem to be with franchise locations - they often own the vehicles and tend to be much stricter.

The paintless dent repair guys are great. I had a hire car that got a dent in the pillar half way up between the windscreen and passenger window, it was 1cm deep and they got it out for $200 along with a few bonnet dents. Took an hour or so and I doubt it would have been cheaper getting it done via the hire car company. Apparently someone must of had a scuffle and pushed someone onto the car.

I have an annual travel insurance policy that will cover the excess that will be payable.

I'm not concerned about the excess, but more that they are ready, willing and able to be the judge and executioner and take a sizeable excess for a rather negligible mark. They proabbly will take the money and not even fix the tiny mark TBH.

They take the excess, then it goes to their claims department that get quotes for a repair, in about 8 weeks they refund the difference between the repair and the excess. I had a claim a couple of years back where a taxi decided to park in my G6s boot while I was stationary and they were doing 50kmh. It was a PITA to be missing the excess for 8 weeks when it was not my fault but it was returned in full eventually, and I got the points on the excess.

IMO, you were lucky to get the excess refunded, given that rental agreements are worded such that the excess is payable regardless of fault.

Its happened a number of times for me now, I do believe the contract would be unenforceable in that respect should it be taken to court given the other party admits complete liability. It would be a different story if that party could not be located.
