Is the Virgin High Flyer Visa still offering Bonus Points?

Hey guys,

I was waiting to see what would happen when the Virgin Money High Flyer cards offer of 10,000 bonus miles ended on June 30. The previous offer was spend $10,000 in the first 3 months and get 10,000 miles (which is pathetic in my opinion). I was never going to take THAT offer up, but would like the card.

Checking the usual sites I can no longer find a mention of this older offer, nor any new offer. Its possible they are no longer offering bonus points, but thought I'd just ask if anybody has seen any current promos for this card?

Get a Velocity Platinum Amex - 30K sign-on points.

That 10K for 10K spend on the Virgin card was insulting!

EDIT: new offer on Virgin High Flyer is 10K on sign-up, additional 10K is you spend 5k in first 3 months (which seems fairly reasonable)

Ahh, thanks for that. Yeah I've already for the AMEX Velocity, with the 30+ points but was looking for a VISA card. This offer is much better.

I am in the same boat. Quite interested in the card but no way I was going to sign up for 10K points with a $10K spend in 3 months required. However, I see today the offer is slightly different and quite a bit better... though still not great:

It's a VISA card, so should be accepted just about everywhere. Just put every single thing you can through the card - see if you can prepay any insurances or registrations even though the premiums may not be due yet (I did this with my health insurance).

The best thing about the Flyer card is the 4 2-4-1 flights each year - these are available on all domestic flights, and all ticket types. Depending on where you want to travel you will save hundreds (Im planning to do a quick MEL-CNS weekend away next year).

The worst thing about the Flyer card is the Virgin Money website. It may seem easy to use when you are applying for the card, but just wait till you are approved and try to pay a bill via Bpay. Easily the worst website I have ever had to use.

A few things surprise me about this card and are keeping me mumbling about rather than acting.

For the high flyer in particular, which is not a cheap card:

- No free flight
- Apparently no additional bonus points for spending with Virgin (which seems weird and counter to what I'd expect)
- 44d interest free rather than the more usual 50+ you get with decent cards
- Relatively mediocre points offering considering the entry price. 20K is a low end card offering but the annual fee is too high to be truly low end

By comparison, I got tempted by the Velocity Amex Plat, 1.5 points/$, 3 points/$ on virgin spend, 1x free flight, 30K points, 2 DJ lounge passes, a bit pricey at $349 but the free flight + 30K helps.

I run everything through the Velocity Amex now. Its not been hit with the same 0.5 points/$ problem of the Membership Rewards cards, so still accrues good earn at the ATO and telco's and whatnot and though many folks seem to have problems with surcharges and acceptance I find I seem to amble though 95% of my life without this issue .... perhaps I'm being subconsciously selective about who I deal with.

Nevertheless, always feel uncomfortable unless I have a good spread of cards and currently only have the EDR mastercard plus a bunch of Amex cards. I'd feel a lot better with a VISA or even another banks mastercard on hand in case of trouble.
