British Airways and Qantas Set The Old Rivalry Soaring With Cricket Fare Promotion 25 November 2010
Test cricket is set to take over Australia this summer and in honour of the occasion British Airways and Qantas have announced an exciting fare promotion that will see the English and Australian rivalry take to the skies.

To spur on the cricketing contest, British Airways and Qantas will each be offering a discount on their economy fare from Brisbane to London determined by the highest single innings total of the English and Australian teams in the Brisbane Test.

As an example of how the fare will operate, during the 2006 Test match in Brisbane, British Airways would have offered a $370 discount off its fare from Brisbane to London (given this was England’s highest single innings total), while Qantas would have offered a $602 discount off its equivalent fare (given this was Australia’s highest single innings total).

On average, Test cricket innings totals are 300 to 400 runs and this equals considerable savings for British Airways and Qantas customers.

Nicole Backo, Regional Commercial Manager for British Airways, said the fare deal makes this summer’s cricket action even more compelling for fans.

"England and Australia always battle hard on the cricket field and this special fare from British Airways and Qantas is sure to get the crowds cheering for their team louder than ever," Nicole Backo said.

Stephen Limbrick, Qantas' Executive Manager, Australia Sales, said the competition would add to the friendly rivalry on display during the Test series.

"Qantas and British Airways are the strongest of airline partners, but when it comes to cricket we are as competitive as the teams on the field, and we look forward to offering some great discounts for our customers," Stephen Limbrick said.

British Airways are offering 250 tickets with the discounted fares from midday on 30 November for travel from Brisbane to London between 1 February – 31 March and 1 May - 31 May 2011. The fares will be available via ba.com for 24 hours or until the ticket allocation is reached.

Pretty good deal at the moment, already at $440 off for QANTAS flights.

Great deal. Very happy.
Can't help think it is the wrong way around. It seems like betting against your own team. BA should have to take the Australian score off their fare and vice versa.

How long does it normally take for these special airfares to sell out?

Well only 250 fares, so a few minutes possibly?
Especially if this is planned and people already know of the promo.

I reckon QF will be discounting atleast $500

So a $481 discount on QANTAS flights BNE-LHR and the other measly amount discount for the BA flight.

BA could be up for some significant discounts too if Cook and trott don't collapse from exhaustion first . Currently 1/439.

Not much of a saving if Australia's first innings had anything to do with it. Bowled out for 98!

Well maybe they'll score more in the second inning.

Actually the target is rather hidden as I can't see in the blurb where it state what the actual fare would be without the discount. (although they indicated a fare after the Brisbane test of $1935)

I note that after the Perth test, the discount fare was $1637 after an Aussie score of 309 runs.

Well the 250 BA fares will be rather discounted with a score of 513 ... somewhere around $1450 based on that.
