We like to reward our clients and our new Lumo Express package does just that. We have teamed up with American Express and arranged for a great energy offer. Mods: Maybe retitle thread???

Anyone know what Lumo are like for prices?

Another plus is just switching to earn in Amex, with no surcharge, rather that my Citibank Visa.

The initial 10K plus 6 month bonus of X10/$ is great too.

Has anyone been able to sign up for this promo. I spoke to lumo and the guy said he has not been trained for this yet and was meant to give me a call back in 48hrs..its now approaching 96hrs...

Having dealt with Lumo through work they are without a doubt the most inept utility provider I've ever encountered.

No disagreement here.

I have the contact details of one of their managers if that is any help. (I got it after contact via the Ombudsman)

Thanks - kind offer, we sorted out a bunch of billing issues on behalf of a client. Just waiting on the contract to expire so we can switch them.

Turns out this is only available when paying a higher rate for the electricity...and no discounts available. I currently get 18% discount for signing up for 2 years. I'm not sure which is better, Discounts or the points!

18% discount is that for vic or some other state...

My apologies. 18% Discount is on my Business Premises. 12% Discount on Home Electricity. I'm in Qld. Ph: Electricity Wizard 1300 359 779. They will source the best Electricity Deal for you and sign you up over the phone.

Hi,

We are currently in the process of moving house - and I have been unhappy with our current Electricity provider here in Victoria for some time.

I took the plunge, and decided to give Lumo a go.

Their rates, compared to what I was currently being charged, were similar. The daily access fee is a little cheaper.

The lady I spoke to was very helpful - she, initially, did not have a great deal of knowledge about the Amex offer - but did indeed know about it, and as our conversation progressed - made me feel very comfortable that all things "should" run smoothly.

We are due to be connected at the new place this Thursday - so, no doubt I will be back here, with - hopefully - a good outcome :)

Cheers,

Brooke

I think I'll look into this one. If they can match/beat my current rates and I received bonus points.. what have I got to lose?

except my electricity...

ohh i see.. in vic we get 15% for residential- not sure about business. The deal only seems to be for new customers though. Might swap out since i am on a no risk free offer.

Hi all,

Well, so far so good !

I arranged for the electricity/gas to be connected yesterday - in preparation for collecting of the keys today.

Went around there this morning - lovely note in the meter box telling us we had been connected.

All good inside the house - we have gas and electricity ! YAY !

So, lets see how it progresses when our first bill etc arrives.

So far - I am pretty happy with the service from Lumo.

Cheers,

Brooke

Hi all,

Well, unfortunately - I am back, with some bad news :(

After my last post, I was feeling cautiously optimistic that everything would run smoothly with my Lumo account. Alas, it was not to be !

I received my first invoice a few weeks ago - a whole $17odd for my "connection fee". No problems - paid it online, then started wondering about the AMEx offer.

Started "digging" around the T&C's of the "Bonus 10k points" - and found that when paying online you had to input a promo code that should have been sent to me.

Two problems with this -

1. There was no provision to input a promo code when I paid online. Had there been, I may have twigged that there was something else I needed.

2. I have never received a promo code from them.

So,

I sent them my first email on 07/08 requesting confirmation that I was infact signed up for the AmEx Express Package (nowhere on my account details does it tell me anything) and that I needed help sorting out the 10k point issue - plus I had not received my 10x bonus points for each $ spent either.

I received an automated reply back saying I would be contacted within 24 hours.......waiting, waiting, waiting........

Sent my second email, this time to the "Complaints Department" on 10/08 - same reply received.

It is now 12/08 and I have yet to receive any feedback at all.

Am guessing I am going to have to call them myself and try and get it sorted out.

Just out of curiousity - has anyone else signed up for this promo, and had a similar problem - or am I just the unlucky one that is having issues ? Or alternatively - am I the only one stupid enough to sign with them ! LOL !

Really disappointed, I had high hopes.

Cheers,

Brooke

Thanks for posting a follow-up Brooke.

Not the best news though... Just keep bugging them and hopefully you'll get somewhere :)

Brooke01,

From my experience LUMO are hopeless at nearly all levels.

If you are still having issues I can dig out the contact details of the management person who contacted me after I went to the Ombudsman.

If you want his details then send me a PM.

I did sign up for the offer but cancelled it in the cooling off period. This was only last week.

The sign up process was easy enough but the person didn’t install confidence in me they knew what they were doing. Anyhow, on reading the fine print once I got the contract and read you need to pay your bill using the promo code that is sent once your account cools off. So effectively around 30 days after you sign up you should get the code. I never got that far.

What concerned me was my next meter read was due on 16 September. That will be billed by my existing retailer. My next read estimated late December will be billed by Lumo. Over Christmas time billing is suspended in most energy retailers and I’m highly concerned if I’m away (as I’m planning to be) or the bill doesn’t get issued to new year I miss out on the 10K points plus the points I’d get for paying the bill. The promo ends 31 December 2011.

So for people signing up today for this offer, good chance they’ll get nothing out of it except the option to pay their bill by AMEX as many retailers don’t offer AMEX.

The promo period is too short to demonstrate value for the consumer.

When I called Lumo they offered to do a special meter read (which costs them around $17) so the transfer happens sooner and I’ll get at least 1, maybe 2 bills with the promo. I declined and cancelled the contract as I felt mislead in the first place.

I’ll stick with my old retailer for now. I did provide this feedback to AMEX Platinum, see what happens from that, if anything.

Also, must disclose, up until recently I did work for a energy retailer in the IT area so I have knowledge of how meter reads works etc. Sadly I can see many people being disappointed by this offer.

Initially I was interested in the offer, but after doing more research, includng the posts of others hear I decided not to join up.

Their price was one issue.

+1, it's hard to cop a 10% increase in price for the sake of 10k points which is worth, what, $80 at most?

Almost fallen for it if I had not looked at it at greater details.
