I might be taking my question based on knowledge to the 'crystal ball' experience. But I know from years of reading posts on this board, there are some awesome knowledgable folk here.:)

I am able to choose an exit row seat on qf7. Reading through the conditions there is a mention re elderly or something age related. Without saying my age, I am eligible for 'that' type pension (read denial pertaining to my age).;) I work, consider myself fit and active for 'that' age. I've been told I don't look or act 'that' age (if that doesn't make me sound egotistical). (I'm one of those folks who look in the mirror and says who is that person).

I'm relunctant to choose one of the exit seats in J just in case somewhere in the actual process after boarding, the fa questions my ability to assist in case of emergency based on not looking under 60.

So based on 'crystal ball' thinkers or in case someone is same age range as me and have been able to stay in exit row I would appreciate feedback. It would be neat being in an exit seat.
cheers

You may need to be physically able to heave the emergency exit door out the hole in the plane lands in an unusual situation.

Having said that about 2 years ago I was on the DJ flight to NZ where my 2 exit row companions were elderly folk who were not able to put there hand luggage in the overhead racks (needed assistance). The FA dutifully stood beside us and explained what we/they had to do. Check in should have "failed" them. But has seen pax moved who were not capable.

You look like an exit row pax to me :)

AFAIK Exit row seat requirements on B747's (which is what QF7 normally operates as) are not as strict as they are on other types (ie B737's and B767's) as at no stage are you expected to assist with evacuations if one becomes necessary. You don't get the talk (at least from what I remember) and there are no special cards on your seat to remind you about your exit row responsibilities.

Agree with Harvyk. Worst case its open a door, not like 737 where you have to haul the 25kg window and throw it out. I suggest that you will be fine, but a call to QF wouldn't hurt to be sure.

according to QF's own rules you are expected to assist in the unlikely event of an emergency. This may not be with the opening of the door itself (as on a 747), but may be holding the slide down at the ground end, or assisting passengers off the slide. It would make sense that these actions are performed, at least initially, by those who are first down the slide.

The exit row requirement for doors that have a crew member at them are the same as the over wing exits on the 737. Flight attendants are not immune from becoming incapacitated in an emergency so the requirement is there to have able bodied passengers near by. Even though the doors have power assist they can be quite awkward to push if the that fails.

As for the OP sitting in an exit row - sounds like you won't have any problems getting it.
