Haven't received an email, but looking at buying some miles, and I see a bonus offer is on for the month of April.

I must have missed seeing this thread when originally started. I almost began a new thread when I was looking over the AA website tonight.

Now that the annual limit's been raised to 80,000 miles, the 40% bonus (106,000 miles) is probably worth it for me. The gamble is whether a better AA offer will come along.

106,000 is 32.5%, and you're better buying 65,000 + 15,000 if you choose to buy now.

Just need to work out whether the second $40 processing charge is worth doing it that way, with 2 purchases.

Edit: Hadn't checked the actual bonus % when posting above

For me buying 40,000 seemed like a good idea in the last promo. But the option to buy the remaining 40,000 wasn't very attractive this time.

So if you see a number you like, it might just be worth hitting it and then forgetting about it for the rest of the calendar year.

These days, I take the rock bottom deal with my suppliers and probably save $$$$ by not getting caught up in the QF bonus points that they offer. If I spend $75k per year with my main supplier I earn 100,000 QF points per year, but if I pay at the time use the rock bottom plan (no QF points scheme), I get anywhere from a 3-4% discount. So I really only spend $72k giving me $3k free to purchase points with AA, this will easily give me the 106k miles with AA.

Both will cover a return trip SYD-DXB, AA is in J but QF is only in Y and for the privilege of QF Y, it also costs at least $350 more in taxes.

I think all people in business tied up with supplier QF points schemes should ask and see what the rock bottom settlement price would be without the QF points scheme, often it can free up money to purchase more cost effective AA points.

Guys usually with these AA promos the miles purchased hit your account with 72 hours-ish but the bonus miles "may take upto 4 weeks" etc sort of thing isn't it ?

But with the current promo the T&Cs say:

Please allow 72 hours for purchased AAdvantage® miles and the bonus miles to post to the designated AAdvantage account.

Seems a welcome change, but can anyone confirm that their purchased miles and bought mights hit their account within three days ?

yes thats confirmed. I don't think the %'age bonuses have taken that long for a long time

65K (plus 26K bonus) for me and 80K (plus 26K bonus) for Mrs Paddy... quite happy :)

I'm wondering who buys large amounts of points when there aren't bonii ?

I am considering buying the 80,000 miles to give a total of 106,000 including bonus for both my wife & myself and then using them for intra-Europe flights (20,000 each in business) and one way back on Australia in First Class (80,000 each). That seems a good way to get cheap tickets. Any thoughts?
