I’m so tempted, but I’d rather wait for DJ to finish their tie-up with NZ and allow me to earn points with Velocity.

I joined up anyway - Might as well and save myself the $50 now; Be handy with other *A airlines that I fly sometime down the track (Read: Not anytime soon...)
Although I too am awaiting the VA/NZ alliance to be finalized here. Hurry up already :D

Does anyone know if NZ will status match? Be nice to get a bump from them after BMI re-negging on a valid offer.

They matched me from QF WP to NZ GE last year. Was very handy for a few NZ and AC flights.

Luckily got a soft landing to Gold this year so another year of *G will be good for my upcoming AC flights.

Well that leads to a second question, how did you go about applying for the status match?

Thanks for that guys, have just joined up.

For those *A experts amongst us, how does Air NZ Airpoints compare with SQ, UA or TG F/F programs??

Pros/Cons?

Thanks Gordon, joined also using FAIRY.

I flew to LAX early last year on Air NZ. The flight/service/everything was great and I think they will give QF a huge shake up.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I will have to go back through my emails to check the exact address, but I just sent an email to customer service at NZ, and I heard back from them pretty promptly.

They wanted a copy of my QF card, statement and planned NZ trips for the next 12 months.

All in all it was pretty painless to do and has been very handy to have :)

Yes, me too. Airpoints expire too, after 4 years:

=========================================
2 Airpoints Dollars Validity and Expiry

2.1Airpoints Dollars you earn are available for redemption until the end of the fourth year after the Membership year in which they were earned (see clause 2.2).
=========================================

Which would mean that even the odd dribble of points I might accrue would no doubt end up wasted due to expiry.

Just tried to sign my cousin up using the KIAORA code but not valid.

Edit: Used FAIRY and successful.

I joined up on the 8th May, and you would have thought they would have sent an email confirming same etc, but alas no.

I've been Gold (or Gold Elite) for some years now.. and I like the program - and the airline - and am sticking with it..

HOWEVER,

Recent "enhancements" have seen partner Airpoint $ crediting slashed... which will be quite a factor for many... and redemptions for flights have never been good value anyway (IMO)...

My decision to "stick around" is based on two things:

1. My travel (not much by the standard of this board) is enough to get me at least to Gold each year.. so I get all the *G benefits wherever/whatever class I fly on the *A.. and the 2 upgrade certificates which I generally use Y+>C on long haul..

2. My Airpoint $ usage is SOLELY for upgrades as well... which is where I see the value in the program... My impression too is that upgrades are easier to come by with NZ.. I have missed ONE Transpacific Y/Y+>C upgrade in the last 7 flights.... It would seem QF upgrades are a bit tougher from what one reads here...

If you want "free" flights.. particularly up front, then I'd suggest Airpoints is not a good program to choose... (JMHO)

If partner Status point earnings are "enhanced" in the same way as Airpoint $ earnings then I will probably bail... that has not - yet - appeared on the horizon...

Is this still possible? I have signed up for an account with AirNZ but when I go to Join Airpoints there is nowhere to enter a promotion code?

EDIT: And now, for some reason, it works - joined using FAIRY, thanks. Could be handy for a Lufthansa codeshare.
