I have purchased an E ticket from Perth to Chicago on an overseas site of a well known online travel company. I called first to see if it was OK or if I had to use their Australian site. All was OK and I saved around $1000 over what I could purchase the identical flights and dates for on the Australian website or direct from the airlines website.
I am not sure if it would work unless it is an E ticket
I found that it was much cheaper to buy tickets on another airline PER-SIN, and then QF has a special SIN-PER, so I booked the SIN-PER sector from qantas.com.sg. They accepted my Amex without any surcharges![]()
Last year we did Syd-Sing-Tokyo on Singapore Airlines, but wanted to come hom QF as it was direct and save quite a few hours.
was able to book on QF Japan site without any problems at all.
also remembered 2008 booked Shanghai - Sydney thru QF site in China. only had to show CC at check-in.
Yep, our upcoming Europe trip was booked on points MEL-SIN-LHR and LHR-HKG, then I bought tickets for HKG-SYD from the Qantas HKG website. No problems.

I have been booking tickets from Qantas Singapore website for ~4 years without any hassles.
Saves a lot of money and takes seasonality out of the airfare price. There are other benefits like a free stopover at Australian cities for a multi-city booking and most times the airfare books into classes that are upgradeable.

I've read this thread with great interest. Excuse me if I seem obtuse, but where do I obtain the Qantas overseas web adresses to check on fares?
Thank you for any advice,
Stroudie.
Once i put in the fare search options that i wanted to fly out of Tokyo to Sydney, it just seemed to appear, and of course prices were in Yen.
with Singapore Airlines, if you google their main site, you can choose where you want to access the website from, so you would just put Singapore. i just tried it earlier and did return Syd-Sin but from the Singapore based site to see if my flights later in the month were any different, but they weren't for me.
Here you go:

Easy! Just go to normal Qantas website and towards the top right hand side of the screen there is a drop down box that (if you went to qantas.com.au) would show "Australia". All you have to is pick the country you want to depart from from the list. Also I think country codes work, eg qantas.com.hk for hongkong, .sg for singapore , .co.nz for NZ etc,
BTW welcome to AFF.
Thank you to those that have replied.
I'll do a couple of scenarios, we would like to travel to Europe next July/August, so I'll see how it pans out.
Thanks again,
Stroudie.
