Am trying to setup a family holiday to Phuket using QF FF points
(have over 400K points).
However its painful as QF have it setup so you either fly:
MEL to BKK (on Jetstar)
SYD to BKK (on QF or BA)
SYD to Phuket (on Jetstar)
My issue is that I would like to fly Mel to Phuket,
which means transit through Sydney, but I cannot convince the QF Awards website to offer me this. (unlike choosing a MEL --> BKK where it happily offers a QF domestic to Int connection)
I presume this is because it would be a QF domestic connection to a Jetstar international?
You should be able to book a multi city award through Sydney
Or just accept the 2500 point fee for phone assisted booking (may be worth it to ensure you get what you want)
Or try and go MEl-SYD then change over to BA for syd BKK, I point blank refuse to fly crapstar anywhere..
My mother did just what you are doing last month, she spent her points on flights over and flew BA over but got Jetstar back to MEL. They had a airconditioning problem and the plane froze. My mum was also expecting to get a standard qantas type treatment, but no meal, no drinks, $15 for a blanket on the over night flight.
terrible.
Her complaint remains unresolved.
You can't complain when you get what you pay for
I flew JQ *class to phuket recently and it was fine.
We also started in MEL, so booked tix to Sydney. If you ask me, using points MEL - SYD is a waste of points, so we picked up a couple of el cheapo QF seats to SYD for $89 each o/w. Just make sure you leave enough time to get your luggage and then catch a taxi to the Intl terminal, as they will not check luggage through for you.![]()
