Are you sure? - half of Europe would then be stopped in the US as Egypt (until recently) and Turkey are very popular holiday destinations for Europeans, especially Germans and Scandinavans. Every 3d German tourist would have multiple Turkish and Egyptian stamps in their passports but I don't remember hearing of LH flights being delayed in the US due to the DHS concerns of similar sorts
If European Tourists (in this case Germany) are traveling on a vacation arrangement they are allowed to enter turkey with their national ID card, meaning no proof of landing anywhere. In fact most people in Germany don't even have a Passport as this sort of ID process is also valid for Egypt and some other key Vacation destinations.

There is no regulation that Turkish Arrival stamps trigger a mandatory selection process but as long as selecting people for secondary inspection is up to the DHS staff at goodwill and they have less geographical knowledge than my 6 year old cousin this is what happens. Stamp in arabic or even arabic like = evil = person needs to be stripped. May I add, most of the staff are ex military as with a government agency veterans have priority application sequence. You can think about this however you like...

Flights are rarely delayed because of single passengers as long as their baggage is removed from the plane. People will be eventually rebooked on the next available flight.

The reason given was not so much the stamps but the entry and exit times that were of concern. Both were short stays, less than 48 hours. They were a little bit concerned at why I was in each country for less than 48 hours. I have since got rid of the passport and have had no issues entering the US.

I am no expert and probably totally off the mark but didn't the September 11 terrorsits travel on Egyptian passports? Probably wrong but rings some sort of bell.

Not saying that it means anything but someone is possibly putting 2 and 2 together....

The Oklahoma City bomber was a US Citizen, does that mean anything? No.

Idiots and terrorists are not traceable by their nationality. Same as a criminal record does not tell you a bit over the person. Every security expert will tell you that the biggest thread would be someone without any record, not even a speeding ticket, citizen of the country where they are trying to commit their crimes.

The sad truth is that the U.S. have absolutely no way to keep track of their own citizens and their actions and motives. But they can't admit that publicly because then the politicians would have no stage anymore. Instead of that they are sailing on a course the everything and everyone that comes from abroad is a potential thread. Even more ridiculous: They insult and hassle innocent travelers on a daily basis. Accusing a european, australian or even canadian to be wanting to stay illegally in the U.S. is a joke. What would someone have to look forward to without proper documentation? No health insurance, no work, no way of doing daily business. Oh well... it's like talking to a stone wall. I wouldn't bet a cent on the fact that anyone there is able to put 2 and 2 together.
