Have just attended US consulate in Melbourne and have been advised that have been recommended for waiver of ineligiblity which should, according to interviewer, take approx 4 weeks to process as all paperwork provided. Has anyone gone through this process and if so how long did it actually take to get passport etc back as have flights booked in early September..

I haven't been through the process myself, but I do know that quite a few others have, and that 4 weeks can stretch right out.

I guess an important question, are the tickets booked in a refundable fare? Whilst 2 months out should in theory be long enough there are quite a few people who have needed to wait much longer (and ended up missing out on the trip altogether)

My fiance is waiting on his application to be returned. Fingers crossed all goes well. It has only been 3.5 weeks for us. Just wanted to know all of your experiences. Did you end up getting a visa? Did you get rejected. What did they send you back in your envelope? thanks

For anyone considering going through this process or already is, just wanted to let you know my experience. I applied back in oct 2011 and 14 weeks later i have still not got my passport back. I have sent numerous emails and each time they just tell me it will take another 4 weeks, then another etc! Getting VERY frustrating considering the reason i couldn't get a visa was due to a crime committed as a silly 17 year old (charged however at 18). All the best to anyone who has to go through this long and painfull process!

Well, just an update... got the passport back after 16 weeks!!! and was rejected!! can NOT believe it! A waste of my money and 16 weeks of my time. It was my future husband who was rejected for an offence 9 years ago... theft of a motor vehicle, charged as a 18 yr old but offence committed when 17. what an absolute joke! I have to wonder what they base their decision on given the circumstances. i have been in a relationship with my partner for 8 yrs and have never known him to do anything wrong. i couldnt even imagine him doing what he did. he is a wonderful father, works very hard with his stable full time job etc. What gets me is that i know of numerous people who have lied and ticked no to have you committed an offence and they have gotten in with no problems. Seems honesty gets you nowhere. And all becuase of something my partner did 9 yrs ago i cant get to go on my dream honeymoon (unless i go on my own!) Vent over!

I was saddened to hear that news honeymooner.
Our staff member is waiting to hear and I think they have had his passport for several months.
