Strange they would offer this to Brisbane first, though being a QLDer i'm not complaining.

Re: The New Emirates Business Class

    Hi Travel Guru

This doesn't come as a surprise nor is it that strange.

For many years EK has flown 777-300s to Brisbane with a substandard product on our once daily service.

It comes as no shock that they have recently introduced 777-300ER equipment with a very high standard of product on board (lie flat in J, fully flat in F and the new Weber seats in Y).

Brisbane is one of EK's highest yielding flights in the network, mostly due to the large amount of lucrative traffic from the Middle East to the Gold Coast and Brisbane, and the ever increasing amount of Business and high end leisure traffic ex-Brisbane. You can read interviews with EK's Stephen Pearse to find out more about what a success BNE flights are.

Emirates' new lounge opens in March at Brisbane International and will be the best lounge outside Dubai. It will have direct access to the aircraft as noted and will be a class above the current lounge.

From October, as you will know, Emirates will introduce our first ever nonstop service between Brisbane and Dubai with A340-500s. From October onwards, Brisbane will have the best product offering in Australia with 777-300ERs (New F/J/Y) and the A340-500 with Suites in F and lie-flat seats in J (MEL gets 773s and SYD 77Ws with the older product on their second daily flights). From 2009, Brisbane will also start seeing EK A380s operating the nonstop service, which is something to look forward to.

So in summary, Brisbane has long been serviced with substandard product, so it makes sense to upgrade the product here first, before SYD/MEL (which already have a high standard product on at least one of their flights).

    Cheers

The chauffeur service is already offered on transtasman services.

I hear the MEL Emirates Lounge (adjacent to the Qantas First Lounge) is also of a really high standard. It was opened in November 2006 just before the "Emirates Melbourne Cup".

Re: The New Emirates Business Class

This is great news for my parents who are travelling on EK DXB-BNE at Christmas. They are in J and my sister and her bot are in whY (he is only 2 so doesnt need the legroom ) so not only will have a decent flight but lounge access for them at least on the way home

They have been fans of EK for a long time. The direct mid-east to SYD flights (although full 2 days after going on sale for Xmas flights) are the main selling point.
I have my iPad... it is ... precious to me...

So much concrete so little time...

What about for a PER-DXB trip in J? I am trying to decide between SQ or EK, is there any noticable difference between the two?

Strewth - this is amazing. Emirates' service from Dubai to Brisbane in F was slightly underwhelming (seats that don't lie flat, being woken to get off in Singapore) but given the paucity of other F flights from Brisbane there wasn't much option.

A non-stop flight J flight from Brisbane to Dubai with a decent flat bed will be an absolute no-brainer, especially given the onward connections that Emirates offers to destinations in the UK outside the south-east.

    Qantas - watch out!

    Hi all

Was wondering if anybody has taken a recent Emirates J flight from BNE to DXB ? I noticed they are using the Airbus A340-500 and wondering if they have the recliner seats which Seatguru is suggesting or are they the sleeper/lie-flat seats as mentioned above ?

I certainly hope its not the recliners...

    Cheers
