My parents are QF NB. On the same ticket, they are travelling in Y QF 11 Syd-Lax, followed by Lax-Las a few days later on QF3155, which is an AA codeshare. Do they have to pay for checked luggage on this sector to Las? I have read the AA website below, and am none the wiser.
    Baggage Allowance
I have warned them though that they may have to pay USD$25 per checked bag, so if they don't have to pay, it will be a pleasant surprise.

PS: Just read this in the above link:
The following passengers will be allowed a 1st and/or 2nd checked bag at no additional charge provided it falls within the size and weight limitations:

    • For tickets purchased on or after September 14, 2009, customers traveling to, from, or through an international destination that does not include Europe or India
So my interpretation is that they don't have to pay for luggage. Am I right?

Maybe you could ask on the AA FlyerTalk forum - or check their FAQ's.

It all depends on the meaning of "From/To". Is that indicating a "transfer without stopover" or an "international itinerary"?

In 2008 I did the SYD-LAS (via LAX) on the same day. QF issued BP for both flights at SYD - rechecked luggage before leaving TBIT and boarded AA in T4 at LAX - no additional baggage charge incurred. Reverse flight from LAS, AA staff did check in for me (avoided kiosk deliberately for the same reason as OP) and as I was travelling back to AUS on QF (via HNL) several days later AA advised there was no baggage charge.

I had multiple flights earlier this year around mainland USA. All of them with AA and did not pay any additional baggage charges at all as at every check in I showed my international ticket back to Sydney and was told that exempted me from the checked bag fees. I had also booked all of my flights after the September 09 cut off and flew to the states with Hawaiian Airlines.

I can confirm they didn't have to pay for checked luggage
