Has anyone had any experience with priority boarding and checkin whilst travelling with immediate family with no status.

Just interested in the official stance and what is actually allowed with all arriving in the priority queue together. Many of us with status will have partners and children accompany us from time to time that won't have status because it is a rarity they travel with us.

It would be silly to split families up, and moving you all from the priority queue gives no acknowledgement to the frequent flyers status.

I have never had any issues with priority check-in with the occassional trips with my wife and daughter, always greated with a smile and all looked after efficiently. I don't know if the priority boarding is treated the same.

Assuming you are all sitting together, are immediate family and one or more has DJ priority check-in / boarding status, I can't see there being any issue.

You should have absolutely no problem boarding with your family. If they see a big crowd they will probably ask for a Gold member, just to make sure you're not just a bunch of confused passengers in the wrong line. But they should most certainly not kick up a fuss about you bringing your family through.*

*And if they do, let us know and all us crazy VA AFFers will make a big stink! ;)

Provided your on the same booking there should be no problem. I've never had an issue using qantas status benefits like this when travelling with my family. In fact, I even used priority checkin with a work mate on a difference booking.

I'm glad somebody brought up this thread.

I'm taking my parents on a day trip to Melbourne this weekend (What a good son I am) so was planning to take them through priority security and boarding at Melbourne airport.

I'll report back if there is any problems. I don't foresee there being any.

Oh my that successful son of ours! :D

i'm sure that you'd be ok to priority check, screen and board with your family, assuming you were all doing it at the same time (rather than "but my dad's a gold member! i promise!!!" - lol. mind you, if that worked...).

over to VA to confirm, i guess :)

Well then I'll confirm that it would be more than fine for a Gold member to take their family through Priority Check-in, Priority Screening and Priority Boarding.

Proviso being that you were with them, and you went through each process at the same time.

agree, never an issue with QF, and would guess no issue with DJ.

Does that apply to colleagues as well? Say maximum of 3 colleagues on Silver.

I've been through priority everything with colleagues without status many times before (including Tues this week) and never had an issue. I always make sure I'm chatting to them so it's clear we are boarding together!

Edit: We have even checked in on different bookings and there is no issue. Most people traveling for work are not on the same booking when traveling together.

My other half has used priority (almost) everything when travelling with 6 colleagues. They were each on their own PNR, and she was the only one with status (gold), while her colleagues weren't even Velocity members... No problems using priority check-in together, as they were able to have seats assigned with each other. No probs with priority security either... However, as she somewhat despises all but one of them, she took her friend into the lounge as her +1, and told the rest that she would meet them on the aircraft (while she later used priority boarding with her friend) :p ... as none of the others had a clue, they were convinced you could only use priority boarding if you had lounge access (which, in a way, is somewhat true anyway) ;) haha
