Mmmm will be interesting to see what happens. Never been a fan of Marriotts (boring). Looking on flyertalk I think this quote sums up the general attitude of spg and Marriott members:

Terrible news for SPG members, frankly!

Probably bad for Hilton Hhonors members as well, reduction in competition tends to mean reduction in privileges and benefits.

I guess, although it is not necessarily open-shut, that SPG will be merged into Marriott Rewards.

I wonder how Marriott Rewards points can turn into airline miles.

Also, what is going to happen to all those Platinum with suite upgrades, or lifetime Platinums or those aiming towards it?

The information is all there, but essentially for an equivalent to SPG platinum, Marriott gets more miles (for the same $ spend at hotels) when crediting to Avios or a North American program, a lot more miles crediting to UA (vs SPG), but less than SPG for all other programs.

Well, that could work out, then.

At least it's usually easier (and strangely more affordable) to find a SPG property than a Marriott one.

It didn't take long for the merger to have an effect in Denver.Joint development announced the next day-
