With plenty of activity around new aircraft orders and newly refitted planes, I wondered which of the two options below the general AFF community would prefer for 8+ hour flights in Y;

* 777 with 10 abreast seating (3-4-3)
* 787 with 9 abreast seating (3-3-3)

Naturally there are many other things to consider, but with everything else being equal, what would you prefer?

787 3-3-3.

The plane is ultra noisy, but the cabin pressure is lower and you arrive without the dry nose and throat.

We're also used to the 787 being 3-3-3 - not like most of us know we're missing out on anything better (unless we happened to fly on ANA or JAL).

With the 777 we all know is was 3-3-3, and many airlines still operate in that configuration. To suddenly board and find you're in a cramped 3-4-3 you feel diddled.

That's one of many reasons I no longer fly Emirates. Who wants to sit in this configuration for 14 hours (or even 8)?

I prefer the 3-4-3 seating because I want to read the AFF threads when there is an aircraft substitution and someone gets automagically moved into the middle seats

rather late to this thread....
On "short" haul (for aussies that is 5 hours or less) I don't care that much, but for long haul I would look for other airlines on both counts.
The 777 with 9 across is one of the more comfortable configs, but 10 across is horrible.
I have only been on 787 with 9 across, and is also horrible. Apart from being a sardine, the much vaunted bigger and tinted windows are useless if you are on the sunny side.

I guess the answer to this depends on if I am flying solo or with SWMBO and the little ones.

Solo, neither are particularly appealing, but with a family of 4 I'd say the 777 with 10 across.

Ideally neither, but probably 787 for the bigger windows and better cabin pressure.
