Dear all

I've been OW Platinum for last 4 years. I now have a new employer and new flights mean moving onto SQ from QF, is there any chance of a status match and how does star alliance view these? Kind regards.

Which country are you based in ? If in Australia one way can be to request for Velocity Platinum / Gold which gives you SQ Gold equivalent.
hope this helps.

As far as I'm aware, Singapore Airlines has a policy of *not* granting status matches. But if you're going to be flying SQ in the long term, it is probably worth building up the status with them anyway.

I have also heard that SQ never grants status matches.

If it's of any comfort though, I had KrisFlyer Gold for a while and it was barely worth having, even though that's the top KrisFlyer status tier (equivalent to QF Platinum in theory). You get only 25% bonus points when flying SQ, and no bonus points at all when flying most other *A airlines. I never got any onboard recognition/special treatment/op-ups etc. Also, in SIN, KF Gold doesn't even get you into the SilverKris lounge (i.e. the business class lounge), but rather just the KrisFlyer Gold lounge, which is significantly inferior (despite the name). If you're flying J, there is literally no benefit in having KF Gold status, while if you're in Y, you're probably no better off than a Velocity Gold. The only caveat (strangely enough) is if you're going to fly with other *A airlines - for example UA and LH will give you access to First lounges if you have KF Gold.

It's also quite hard to attain/retain KF Gold status - you need 50k Elite Miles per year - and as an example when flying J you typically only earn 1-1.25 Elite Miles per actual mile flown, while in Y you earn 0.1-1 Elite Miles per mile flown. If you were flying on the mid-range Y fares (which earn 0.5 Elite Miles per mile flown), you'd need to fly from Australia to Singapore return about 14 times to attain or retain Gold status.

I have heard that the only status worth having with SQ is PPS - which is their separate revenue based loyalty system, but for that you have to spend at least S$25k per year on SQ flights. Or if you spend S$250k over 5 years you can get PPS Solitaire status!

EDIT: here's an article explaining the two programs if you're not familiar with them: https://www.ausbt.com.au/singapore-airlines-krisflyer-scheme-for-aussie-travellers
