After many short 10sc trips I have finally made it - not too sure what extra benefits are really available to Plat vs Gold though.

The main ones are up to 3 guests in the lounge with me, and extra luggage that I don't really use in any case.

But most importantly, that wonderful new tag and card - it's all about the status. Mrs W thinks I am a nut - and that most others here are a little on the loopy side.

Enjoy mate. The 4 free upgrades will be handy for your family hols or whatever - just buy an ever so slightly more expensive fare to fly J.

Apply for your Hilton status - that is worth it.
Start family pooling now - no point accruing to self anymore.

Hopefully the new syd split level lounge may have some additional Plat benefits, and no status matched QF flyers to enjoy it (they should all fall away by mid-Sep)

Well done. Unless I get a job change soon I'm just going to watch my matched status slide and slide :-|

I think there should be better differentiation of benefits between the status levels, especially with things like lounge access - if I earned platinum the hard way I'd be feeling even more strongly about this I'm sure ;)

Congrats, Enjoy.
Il be soon gold, like you I have done it the hard way flying smaller trips.

Well done mate - I'm hopefully not far behind - again the hard way - about 200 short and have til September.

So can I have 4 separate upgrades?

I wouldn't family pool yet.... now that you are Platinum I would go for re-qualifying and then family pool. (IMO) That is if you have someone to pool to.

Congrats for making platinum.... BTW

Although a little off topic, my daughter just became platinum and she does very little domestic flying. (no business flying but all BIS) Long haul international is the trick for points (although I think I am preaching to the converted). I couldn't believe a co worker of mine has only just hit gold and he would fly domestic flights 4 times more than me.;)

I would have to do a count, but something like 60 flights domestically to reach it. Agreed, a couple of long hauls would make it much easier to get. Especially when you only need 8 sectors as a minimum. Maybe extra status points could be awarded for each 10 sectors completed.

....sent from the place closest to the airport I just arrived at.

Congrats :)

A Double SC offer would have helped to get there much quicker .... Perhaps you'll get one next year to help retain!

While total sectors would be lower, total hours BIS would be higher in most cases for those earning status primarily through long haul (referring to discount economy - quite easy to up the status credits on the premium long haul fares)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes Mal, I can only hope. I have never seen one come through, and would love to know how to get picked for one of those offers.

I also made Platinum just today - albeit with a little help: the ex-wife took the kids to the US, that got me 160SC. Plus I was subject to the double SC offer. But having being status matched the good news for VA is I am a convert - I made Gold with Q too however the majority of my future flying will be VA. Next goal: an invite to the VA 'Chairpersons Lounge! :p

Congrats.... I wish I knew how that double SC offer was issued, and how I seem to have been missed..maybe next round :)

well done!

I think another benefit that isn't stated is 'THE SHADOW', which means if you book a window or isle seat, it reserves the one next to you so that no one else can sit there.
Of course I think if the plane is full it might not work.
