I tend not to take much notice of ”the fellow in the shop”, especially when I have already made up my mind on what I am buying. If hubby wants the Bose, then the Bose it is. Anyway, the Bose will come with a chord.

Yes, thank you for replying.

I tried the Bose 700 the other day and was really impressed but I noticed the sample music was a heavy base type music so I wondered what it would be like with my preferred choice of music and movies ect.

So if youre going to test hear them, take your own music/phone/ipod ect.

Do you have other Bose Stores/Retailers in your area that you could visit?

Store Locator: Store locator

Edit: There are some actual branded Bose Stores about, sometimes in Westfield Shopping Centres. They will certainly not try to push you to other brands 😀

But do the wireless ones even work for the qantas entertainment?
How do you connect with the Bluetooth?

I dont even know if it’s possible

which is why initially we thought we needed headphones with a cord

Over-ear wireless headphones will generally also come with a wire that you can use to plug in to a 3.5mm jack. I'm not familiar with the specific model you're looking at, so you'd need to confirm.

Next issue will be that aircraft tend to require a two prong plug. If you're headphones don't come with a 3.5mm to two prong adaptor, you can pick one up very cheaply online.

Finally, you can also purchase a little bluetooth adaptor that plugs in to the aircraft two prong socket. This then sends the audio via bluetooth to your wireless headphones.

And, if you can visit a proper Bose Store, they will sort it out for you.

Was wondering about the bluetooth option. Like your practical adapter solution

Ok, thanks everyone for you suggestions.

I think I’ll go with the Bose 20 in ear plugs noise cancelling. I’ll get a jack to connect to the plane socket.

The truly Bluetooth ones sound a bit more complicated for the plane .... haha

If you do end up with Wireless (ie. Bluetooth) headphones, and want to plug into the entertainment system on the plane, you'll need two additional items:
1) an airplane adapter that plugs into the two-pin audio ports on the plane
2) a Bluetooth transmitter, such as the one below - note these need to charged up before you use them.

having used both Sony in ear wired headphones and Bose in ear wired headphones (QC20). I found the Sony ones to be better from a NC point of view and also usability point of view. I can't find the Sony model, but it's probably discontinued.

This is different to wireless headphones for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Sony are better from an NC point of view

Qantas store often has headphones on sale using points/cash.

Wireless headphoneS are not complicated.

IMO in the adaptor is not really necessary.

@pippilongstocking what type of flying does your partner do. On a weekly basis I just use wireless head phones connected to my iPad. I also carry the cable in case I am on one of the QF planes that still use seat back screens. On international flight I just plug the headphones into the IFE. Although @SeatBackForward has a point with the adaptor it is not really necessary and is just something else to carry and remember to remain charged.

I have the Sony WH-1000XM3 and the case came with a wire as well as a 2-pin adapter, although I do find most newer planes work with plugging your earphones straight in anyway. May be a good idea to check on purchase if your headphones come with any extras...
