Just wondering whether post 1 Jan 2012, Virgin Australia will adopt the VA code. or rebadge the current V Australia as DJ?

I would hope its the former, but there appears to be some debate on this in another forum. Any news?

I have not come across any details but would prefer VA over DJ

Just curious as to why there seems to be more preference towards taking the VA code? I thought DJ sounded cooler...

Isn't the code tied in with whats set out on the AOC?
In order to change it they would have to wait until the AOC's renewal date? (and Virgin renewed it right before rebranding so I assume its got some life left in it)

V Australia will become Virgin Australia officially on January 1st 2012.

As for the code, you cant just swap it around, in my opinion with common sense, they will keep the DJ code. If they were to change it around they will have to wait till the next aoc renewal date which is far away. I dont think they will go to the trouble of changing around a code.

I dont really care anyway, it's just a code.

Well I think it's more than that. If V Aus is moving in under Virgin Australia, does their code then become DJ? After all it would theoretically be under the same AOC. Would make sense to change it to VA if that's the long term plan. Wouldn't make sense to change VA to DJ, then change back later on when the AOC is renewed.

I'm not sure that the IATA code is anything to do with AOC. I think that is only relevant to the ICAO code, which I believe is VOZ. Also, you'd have to imagine that there must be some process for amending AOCs after they've been issued to deal with commercial changes like this.

Air India recently changed to a single code system, away from having a different domestic and international code. Maybe there's some clues to the process there.
