Just booking a 10day biz trip to London next week with two colleagues. If I book a Hilton, I "should" get a room upgrade, but will my friends on the same booking and check-in get an upgrade? "No!" I can hear you saying, but I don't want any embarressing moments when I get bumped up and my client doesn't. Has a successful outcome ever happened to a HH Diamond here?

Lastly, has anyone stayed at the Hilton Doubletree Westminster? Looks a bit out of the way, but gets a good TripAdvisor rating.

Its an individual hotel decision.I have certainly have had success in the past as well as failures. The Doubletree at Disney world was fantastic-I had booked our room + 2 others for my business partner and his 4 children. All were upgraded and we all got free breakfast in their restaurant. As the fellow checked in the others he said-sometimes it is really good to know drron!
So probably an email to GM prior to stay.

I'll be able to tell you about the Doubletree Westminster in a week - I'm staying there for a night. I've had variable experiences with other rooms on the same booking being upgraded - it sometimes happens, but the rules of the program explicitly say that only the room with the Diamond Member is eligible for an on-standby upgrade. It's always nice when hotels go over and above this, though, but that's never to be expected.

Did this recently in Hawaii. Booked two rooms under my name and HH number (Diamond). I got upgrade, my colleague did not. But we both got Exec Lounge access and free brekky, even though colleague had no status himself.

Just a thought just do a room swap with your client and let them have the upgraded room

It depends on the person, my advice is to go straight to the lounge to check in, just don't expect it.

Go straight to the lounge to check-in ......are we talking about the Hilton?

I've stayed at Hilton Brisbane, HOTP, HSW, Cairns, Perth, Adelaide with colleagues (booked under my name 2 or 3 rooms) and all have been given lounge and/or breakfast privileges (although it can confuse some hotels - in theory I go to breakfast numerous times in this morning!). In some cases I will be given the upgrade (sometimes from basic room to presidential suite!) whilst my colleages have been 1 room upgraded.

Have been a HH Diamond for a few years and frequented them regularly over the years so I suspect actual hotel loyalty (rather than brand) may also have something to do with it.

Advice - don't expect, but be happy if offered.

Yes, Hilton's with an executive lounge will let you check in there if you are diamond.

How? All the exec lounges I've been to require a key card to access. If you haven't yet checked in where do you get the key card from?

Don't know what to say. Never had to open a door to a lounge with a key card. In the lift maybe, and then only after hours or to access the executive floors, but never for the lounge floor. Then again i can't argue with your experiences, however i should mention i have never stayed at a Hilton in Aus and spend most of my time in Munich, KL and the rest of Asia.
My advice would still be to check in at the lounge, get a porter to escort you if in doubt.

Both Melbourne properties and Sydney do not. Brisbane I suspect does, Adelaide I can't remember and Perth I have no idea.

Often the issue is that in the middle of the day there are no staff around to do the checkin.
