I'm booked for 2 overseas (Asia) cruises next year and decided an annual policy would be the way to go. Some friends recommended TID and after looking at a few others (Suresave, QBE) I'm puzzled how TID can offer such competitive rates when the cover is very similar. I have a quote for $354 from TID and $635 from Suresave.

Can anyone shed light on the low cost factor?

Travel agents earn 50%-100% commission on insurance! So if they are not paying that. There is quite a saving!

Are the range of coverage and pay outs equivalent???

Apart from that if they are web based only that is a lot of savings potenially in staff and offices... together with reduced or no commissions...

I know i took out car insruance earlier in the year with a web based company, forgets its name, but it was like half the price of SGIO... Don't know how they will compete, but then if i need to claim i imagine SGIO would be easier...

You should be able to get it even cheaper than that.

The discount code (if it still works) HOPON should get you 10% discount. (worked for me back in Sept)

If that doesn't work, TIDSAVE or TIDTHANKS will get you $10 discount.

TIDXMAS has been used in the past for 10% too - It's the right time of year to try it ;)

Thanks everywon. You've won me. The cover is more than adequet for my needs, so can't see the sense in paying any more. I won't be buying a policy until just before I book flights to Bangkok.
