I rented two cars last week, one in CHC and one in SYD, both Intermediate class cars

Avis in CHC gave me a Hybrid Camry (which was a very nice ride)

Europcar in SYD a Hyundai I30 (not so flash after driving the Camry)

And this week I have a standard car booked with Europcar in FRA and that is supposed to be a VW Passat CC but also looked at an Intermediate and that is a Hyundai I40.

Personally I don't put a Camry and an I30 in the same class so how do the car companies decide this? Is there logic to the madness?

The ordinary camry's are ordinary, big difference to the Hybrid which I suspect was an upgrade. As to who determines what, who knows, I prefer the I30 over many cars if I am on my own, its petrol use and overall finish is very good, but having recently booked an i20 and been given an A1 Sportback with the 7 speed and blown engine, I have a new love (and I suspect a photo to prove is in the mail as part of a fine ).

I had that with a Volvo V70 once, nice picture though

Hertz believe a Camry is a 'full size' car in the US, the home of some very big cars/trucks. So car size can vary by company and country.

Hertz tried to stick me in a Corolla on Friday in SYD, even telling me it was a full size (I had booked fullsize, Hertz 5 star gold too...) because it was the new Corolla which is apparently as big as a camry lol...

Eventually got into an XR6 after a whinge that a Corolla was not full size, in any part of the world.

Probably would've been better in the 'rolla though as I swear they gave me the ****tiest XR on the lot, high km, unclean, clunked into gear etc... Generally not impressed...

Will probably give Europcar a burl next time as they've always been decent.

As a former Hertz employee, you have the right to provide feedback regarding your experience as you may already know. Feedback info is on the receipt. Hertz take feedback seriously and believe me we have monthly sessions with our boss with all staff present and we go through and discuss the comments and how we responded in that particular situation - the good and the bad. The employee who handled your reservation will be on record, so by all means fire away. If you requested a Class D (camry) or Class E (Aurion, Ford G6) vehicle that is what you should get, especially as a 5 Star Hertz gold member (I always upgraded where possible subject to fleet availability). From memory a corolla is a B or C class vehicle (not 100% sure as it was 5 years ago). The car should have been cleaned at the very least, sloppy work like this gets back to the employee on duty at the time believe me. Head office might send you a freebie your way too in order to redeem themselves.

Yep, I agree... I've sent a email with my comments and experience to them to let them know what happened.

I shouldn't have to ask to get what I have reserved though, especially when you pay a premium for it.
