Hi - I have booked around the world (MEL-SFO, LAX-LHR-HKG-AKL-CHC-MEL) with Air NZ and want advice which FF program we should redit our points to - Air NZ or United or other Star Alliance FF program. We were members of Air NZ airpoints, however that has lapse. We are still members of United with zero miles. We are members of QFF and normally fly QF or OneWorld or Virgin and probably continue to do so except for this .

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Depends a lot on what class of travel and fare bucket.
Have a look at BMI. Several other posts about BMI buried in other threads (many by QF009).

What fare bucket?

With BMI, you get 100% accrual with most NZ Economy class buckets. For NZ Business you get 200%.

Once you reach *G at 55k status miles (or 38k requalifying), any status miles you get beyond that will be turned into award miles. So effectively double miles. Plus the 25% bonus miles for *S and above.

So if you've got equivalent status with a oneworld FFP, get it matched to BD*G and you'd end up earning 225% if flying Economy and 425% in Business for your itinerary.

Redemption levels are some of the best in the industry. Especially with Cash and Miles option. 11 250 miles + GBP75 + tax enough for a one way J award to/from anywhere in the South West Pacific with enroute stopover. 18 750 miles + GBP127.50 + tax for a one way J award to/from SE/N Asia with enroute stopover, or 25 000 + GBP170 + tax for F, or to Hawaii.

Join now and you get 3000 welcome miles.

If you are in economy, take a close look at your fare type and booking code. The cheapest Air NZ fares (not sure which code they are in) only earn points on the AirNZ program, so you could be out of luck as far as UA or other star alliance programs go. If this is the case, then NZ is the only option, and for what it's worth your itinerary would accrue at least $235 airpoints (or more depending on what your stopovers are)
