I've been scanning my father's old slides and found this one. Its' from around 1964-66 I think. My guess is Perth but not sure as there are Albany photos in there too. Pretty sure Albany airport would not have been this big back then though!

Love the cars.

I am fairly sure it is PER - check the Lost Perth site on Facebook as there are some very similar photos on there

That looks very much like the old BNE terminal building from many years ago. But I guess it could be any Aussie domestic airport terminal from that era. The car number plate look to be Black/White which would match QLD at the time.

I'm not that old, but yes, definitely PER (It hasn't really changed that much, in fact, I believe they have running water now! ;)).

Wow - looks like that first photo was taken the same day! Thanks for the replies.

Looking down that page explains another photo I found. If I'd looked closely at this one I would have noticed "Observation deck" on the sign.

I *do* remember that as a kid. In fact, before the VA end of the terminal had a make over, where you enter security now, you'd head left and down towards the QF terminal. That pond was still there outdoors as a smoking area.

The black swans were definitely in there too. Back in those days, it was also an international terminal (I remember the glass-brick wall of the early 80's that pax would emerge from after clearing immigration).

I must have known I was going to be a flying freak, I don't remember anything else from when I was that small, but all the visits to the airport are deeply ingrained in my memory!

While I've got the attention of the Sandgropers can anyone tell me where this is? I don't think it's near the airport but there are a few pics of this monument and I have the feeling it's near the Swan in downtown Perth but I can't be sure. I've got a feeling I've been there. This is from the same era when my parents lived in WA.

You know what? That's what it reminded me of but it was in a box with all these Perth slides so I thought it must have been there. I will look into it further - this means some people in my family travelled further than I thought a way back then!

See if you recognise this then!
(sorry not air related)

Wow looks so empty ..... View of the narrows bridge Perth from Kings Park
Oh and it is air related as you could see the airport in the distance from here or at least take off's & landings !

In June 1929 the Rotary Club of Perth presented the Perth City Council with a replica of the statue of Peter Pan, that is found in Kensington Gardens in London, as a gift to the children of Western Australia to mark the centenary of the State.

The reproduction was produced by the sculptor of the original statue, Sir George Frampton and autographed by the creator of Peter Pan, Sir J. M. Barrie.

It is located in Queens Gardens, Perth, a 3.3 hectare park on a former brickworks and clay pit site in the eastern end of the Perth Central Business District. The park is bounded by Hay Street to the south, Plain Street to the west, Nelson Crescent to the north and Hale Street to the east.

Yes - well done! Thanks - I was wondering how my family went to London back then...

Another view of The Narrows - I thought this was Canberra when I first saw it. Bit of a dirty old pic which I've tried to clean in my amateur way.

Beat me to it but yes in Queens Gardens Perth, near the WACA. Saw it a lot as a kid.
Have seen the London one as well. There were 7 made from the same mold and in other cities to.
JM Barrie the author installed the London statue overnight so it appeared magic to the kids.

The airport brings back memories too, the swan pond I remember. Was there also a wall with lots of clocks of world time on???

Here is Queens Gardens today.

But, I hope it stimulates you to wander through Kensington Gardens next time you are in London.

Yes, from memory the wall was just near the entrance through to immigration. I seem to recall there was some telphones or headphones that you could listen into ATC as well. THere was of course the orbit inn bar upstairs as well.

I lived near the London one a way back when. Am sure I got a photo of it. This was when Charles and Di lived in that palace.

RE: "Another view of The Narrows - I thought this was Canberra when I first saw it."

Warks - your first thoughts were actually right. That is a picture of Canberra - Commonwealth Avenue Bridge - probaby in the early 60's.

Perth Airport was virtually the same as those photo's when I worked there in the mid 70's - the most important feature was the Orbit Inne - to the left of the Swan Lake - open basically 24 hours a day if you knew the "alternate" entrances.
