an iphone from kogan vs duty free?

i thought about buying from the actual store but claiming for tourist refund scheme for the long line up seems ridiculous so meeehhh for me

I'd stay away from Kogan. Why buy a (usually) grey import from them (Note phones on their website will usually say "This product is an international model. Power plugs may vary, or may not be provided at all.")

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Do not buy Apple products from Kogan - 100% grey products and if service required even within warranty period Apple will not service them. *(Info direct from current Apple employee)

ok then would you buy from duty free or from nationwide and claim for tourist refund scheme?

Buy from Apple or retailer but make sure your name and address is on the Tax Invoice (not receipt) as I assume you'll be paying more than $1000. JB Hifi always give me grief over items > $1000 (too hard to get an addressed invoice) so I walk down the street and buy from Digi-Direct.

You haven't got 30 seconds to save $100?

Download the TRS App from the App Store and enter your details. When you get to the airport, walk up to the TRS counter and stand in the queue on the left (in MEL) with one or two people in it ....... not the one on the right with the thirty-five people who don't have the app. Show the Border Force person your phone with the TRS app open as well as your tax invoice, boarding pass, passport and the credit card you wish your refund paid to.

Officer scans the QR code on your phone, stamps your invoice, swipes your credit card and you're done. THIRTY SECONDS tops!
I know, I did it with a ring + camera + QC25s only 4 weeks ago and it took no more than 30 seconds.

Neither - I take a 2yr plan on Vodafone and pay $17mth for 21mths then take a new phone on a new contract and keep the old. But we are all different so clearly YMMV.

oh rly? i've been told how the line is long where you wait over an hour even you prepare the form when you go there

$17mth? which phone are you having a contract with? i can't find any with that price on the site

CE's wrong - it's actually $19 per month for the iphone when you take on a $60 per month plan: total cost $79 per month. See iPhone 6s - Vodafone Australia.

Similarly Optus have a $74/mth plan which is a $60 plan plus $14 per month for the phone (comparing like for like - ie 3GB plan).

I have used this service a few times over the last year or so. The 'app' queue is always shorter, except for one occasion where there was only one person staffing the counter and the 'app' queue was closed. The most I have waited (before the 'app' process) is about 15 minutes. And about 5 minutes since using the app.

Essentially, why not prepare yourself for TRS and if you don't like the looks of the queue keep walking.

Please don't knock it until you've tried it. ;)

I agree with those who say stay away from Kogan for Apple products.
I also agree re TRS as most times it is a relatively short wait especially if you use the app.
It is always easy to find one person who has a bad experience but that does not make it the norm.

the reason why I asked was I want to purchase a 5s - where's the best place to get this? from apple store, the price seems ridiculous at this stage thoug

.... and I'm telling you it took me thirty seconds at 8:31:42am on 28-Oct-2015 (I'm looking at my TRS receipt for $249.55 as I write), so why doubt me - have my 200+ posts on this forum really been that unreliable?

However, in January this year there was a China Southern plus QF93 plus a Virgin international flight all leaving in the morning - lots of congestion. Customs officials gave us forms to fill out to avoid queuing and we put forms and invoices into a brown envelope and place it in a box at TRS; they didn't even look at the duty-free goods! It took the time it took to fill out the forms (after finding a ballpoint pen!). Money was in my credit card within 3 days.

YES I stand corrected - it is indeed $19/mth on $70 plan:

I upgraded from 5s which was $7/mth to 6+ in late June after 21mths of original 24mth plan - I unequivocally apologise for misleading parliament!

I should have added a smiley to indicate I was being flippant and pedantic as I was "surprised" that the OP had such difficulty finding the $ value per month of the iphone.
