I am gold with Qantas and a couple of months away from my year end. I have no chance of making platinum in this short time and I am wondering why I should keep flying Qantas and in this period why not fly Virgin to earn status credits to keep up my gold status with them.
Qantas have offered my some double status credits, but will not help in getting platinum.
I would like to see airlines offer to roll over some status credits earnt in the time between obtaining the tier for the next year and the end of the year.
Any thoughts from others?

A question that has been asked many times and there are as many different responses as there are questioners.

For Qantas the most basic response is to keep contributing on the way to life time status.

However, if your travel does necessitate travel on both airlines, i.e. QF and VA then it can be a good strategy to have status on both.

You'll need to cogitate a bit and decide what works for you.

Sometimes it can seem like a waste, but at the same time your previous flights have given you the status for this and the next year and it seems silly to not use the benefits.

I've stuck with QFF over the years with a goal of achieving LTG....I'd still be going if I split the earn with VA.

If your flying is not significant to earn elite status with multiply airlines.....and, you want to build status for the benefits - I recommend you pick one and hope they don't go broke!

yes the reason to continue is to enjoy the benefits you have earnt surely?

The obvious benefit of QF gold is lounge access.

Some people credit QF flights to the AA freq flyer program while getting some the QF gold benefits

As a gold member of both Qantas and Virgin was the reason for my question.
My flights are all booked by my employer and they take the cheapest option first and my choice 2nd, so I can request Qantas domestic and if there is a cheaper option around the same time that will be booked for me and the same if I book Virgin. When there is less than $20 or so difference then my choice is taken.
My point is that if Qantas wanted to make me book with them as my preference, as I normally do, at this time they should offer me somthing to make me think of them first, but I am thinking Virgin should be my preference to build points towards me keeping gold with Virgin.
Also I am only 70% to lifetime silver so lifetime gold is not likely for a very long time.

You never know how things will turn out.....

It took me 10 years to earn 3,000SC....and then 7 years to earn 11,000SC for LTG.

I am platinum with QANTAS and Virgin. Already qualified for QANTAS WP 2 months in and 65 SC from life time gold. So flying Virgin to get WP again. For me the fact that Virgin Gold also has domestic priority boarding is a plus, with QANTAS you need to be WP or above, or flying business.

My dilemma is I am LTG with QF. I am toying with the idea of actively pursuing AA. Do you still get advance seat selection if you book through AA on QF metal or use AA account ?

If you can easily maintain Gold with both airlines then that is the best way to do it. No point having your eggs in the one basket so to speak.

I am in a similar situation in that I am Platinum with Qantas and Gold with Virgin but this year I am going to struggle to get to Virgin Gold unless they have some sort of cheap business class promotion.

Generally for me Virgin Gold is 40 one-way flights in a year which is way too many flights to spend flying with Virgin. I would go nuts. I am much more comfortable in a bulkhead on a Qantas 763 or row 4 on a Qantas 737. Row 3 on Virgin is a rarity for me and the rest of the rows feel too squashed.
