I am going from SIN to LHR on QF 9 on Saturday 29/05. At the moment, seatcounter indicates seats available for the higher-class fares only (as below)

Qantas 9 747-400 SIN/11:05p LHR/05:25a (+1d) A9 B2 C9 D1 F9 J9..... W0 Y9

Do you think a request for a 35,000-point upgrade to Y+ for this sector, even though there're no W seats available, still has certain merits? Or should I dream of an op-up ?

Thanks,
Voyages.

It's worth a shot. If there are still First and Business Class seats available they may op-up people into these cabins to allow points upgrades to premium economy.

I hope so too, JohnK. These flights to LHR seem to be so full on Saturdays.

Oh JohnK it was zilt at the end. CMT didn't show any *waitlisted* status and QF didn't show anything at all (not even a denied upgrade status). I was a tad confused.

Thinking it was a bit odd, I then realised that this flight is part of my LONE5 booking, and the fare rules state "Upgrading by sector to Business/First class is not permitted". Though I only requested an upgrade to PE, I wonder if this rule applies? When booking the fare, I had the option of paying extra $1,250 per leg for PE seats on certain flights, hence the feasibility of points upgreade to PE seemed to be valid at the time.

So maybe it's a system thing. That normally it allows upgrade requests from pax on L class fares. Damn I spent a whole week checking Seatcounter religiously everyday, haha.

I got the bulkhead seat 40A which I had managed to pre-select though. Another pax walked past and asked me if I had paid extra $$ for it (for the leg room), and was a bit suprised to hear I could select it before the flight (I didn't mention my SG status).

That fare restriction only applied to paid upgrades and not to FF program upgrades. So you cannot pay to upgrade one sector to business class on a LONEx fare (you can pay per sector for premium economy on certain sectors).

I see, thanks NM. So it's most disappointing that CMT and QF didn't even show my waitlisted status! argh. Even 10 mins before boarding the QF booking still showed the standard "An ungrade request... etc...etc... 5 hours before departure". I asked @ check in and QF lounge (in SIN) but they had no idea. They did say that PE was full (which I had already known).
