Hi fellow travellers.

Today I'm looking at booking a trip to Italy, I have two options, one is SYD,SIN,MXP. My flight would be SYD,SIN on The A 380 F then the 777 300ER to MXP. Or I can Fly all the way to LHR on the A 380 and a flight to MXP from LHR

This is all on Singapore F. I have flown the 777 F from SIN to MEL, but never been on the A380 with Singapore, I have flown a lot on the Qantas A380 F .So what's your pick and why.

A380 all the way in a suite or half on the A380 suites and half on the 777

Hi Wayne,

Having never flown neither, I would go Suites all the way if I had the same decision because MEL-SIN is only a 7 or 8 hour flight where I don't think you'd have enough time to enjoy the Suites "experience" compared to SIN-LHR which is more like 12 or 13 hours.

Just my thoughts, but would also be keen on hearing feedback from those who have tried both products.

SG F Suite to LHR all the way is a much better option if you want to really enjoy the F experience. I feel it's a bit wasted on the 777. Alternatively, Cathay J to HKG and F to MXP is a good option too.

Yes I have done that flight on Cathay and its always good knightman, thanks for the input :)

"On many long journeys have I gone. And waited, too, for others to return from journeys of their own. Some return; some are broken; some come back so different only their names remain".....those are the ones that took the A380 option - Yodas view on the matter :D

Lol already going hard at this hour eh ? Are you at a QP somewhere lol :p

Direct into MXP on the 777ER no doubt at all. Excellent F (and you will probably get the new F which looks outstanding New First Class ) and saves you a transfer and what... about 6 hours? The suites are nice but a little over-rated (overblown maybe). It's a 12 hour flight, you're not moving in for the week!

I disagree.... but then I have my reasons.... (see below)

A friendly reminder, be sure to give yourself at least 2 Singapore Stopovers. When flying Suites or First Class arriving in Singapore, you are entitled a complimentary 1-night stay at Raffles, Shangri-La, Fairmont, Ritz Carlton (and few others, but really, only Raffles is worth it). So you can get one night on the way to Europe, then another free night back to OZ. (Offer ends 31 March 2014)

I am booked to go to FRA next Tuesday on SQ228, and I scored 2 free nights at Raffles... it is tough life to have a LONG transit in Singapore, but I am willing to sacrifice 48-hours of my life transiting in that hot and humid city state.... (A real first world problem....) Oh, did I mention that you get SGD$40 cash voucher just for transiting at Changi Airport??

Suite all the way if possible. Why not fly into Zurich (388) and use Eurail to go down to Milan?

The exclusive feel of the suite is just so much better than 77W/773 F. Plus the mattress is thicker on 388. May be it is my imagination, I found the FA sexier on 388.... (Note: I need to get my eye sights checked...)

would this apply to points bookings also? can't see anything explicitly ruling it out? would be fairly cheeky asking for it i admit

Ask :) What have you got to loose? The worst SIA can do is denying you the One-Night-Stand you desired :D

The T&Cs indicate not available on redemption:
Eligible bookings
Valid on flights into Singapore and bookings must be made on First or Suites Class F/P/R Class or mixed Suites/First/Business Class fare.

We have done the Suites run to LHR several times in the last 12 months and we can recommend it. This time we went to Ireland and Scotland...so much to see and so little time. The A380 in Suites is a great way to fly.
Make sure your layover time in Singapore suits you and you will be close to perfect.

What class do award redemptions book into ?
"A" class ?

First/Suite Saver redemptions book into O class.
Standard redemptions book into A class I believe which is also normally used for tactical or lead-in commercial fares.
Full redemptions would qualify as they book into something higher up in the hierarchy but not worth it for the massive premium - far more worthwhile to book your own hotel stay (booked my parents an Away Room at the W for their staycation, with its own plunge pool for ~SGD470/night).

I faced this question myself.

My choice was SYD SIN (A380) followed by SIN MXP (77W).

I had tried both previously and yes, Suites are a better experience in terms of privacy and roominess.

But then, your time is sometimes important too.

You have to determine if you could spare the time doing all the connections and layovers.

If you could, then Suites are the obvious choice.
