What chance for points upgrade to LA ?

I am travelling to US in April with my wife and wanting to fly business without paying the $8000+ with Qantas.
What are my chances of getting a points upgrade MEL - LAX from economy to business with bronze QFF status ?
Are any Australia to US routes with QF likely to be more successful.
In the past we have been successful with points upgrades to London, Frankfurt, LA, and Hong Kong on 9/12 legs but my feeling is that QF is getting much meaner with these upgrades especially on the popular US route.

do a search on this board and you will find many similar threads with suggestions on how to maximise your chances, including:

• Avoid peak business travel days where the flights are full of high stats passengers and the premium cabins are fuller. So avoid travel on Friday through Monday.
• Look for the less popular routes, such as SYD-SFO or BNE-LAX.
• Get onto the waitlist as soon as possible.
