Hi AFFers :)

After searching I couldn't find much book discussion on AFF, and thought it might be fun to see what everyone is reading, what's recommended etc?

Currently I'm reading Up In The Air by Betty Reigel - stories from a Pan Am flight attendant. I read it a few years ago and am enjoying the re-read.

Also, doesn't have to be flying related :) Next up I have Down The Rabbit Hole by Holly Madison. Tales of a former playboy bunny. Very un-intellectual but will be an easy read on the few flights I'm taking this weekend.

Almost finished All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doer

In my opinion, well written and very interesting.

Set in the 2nd World War.

Not Flying related.

Slaughter House 5
Kurt Vonnegut

Not flying related but interesting time travel, black comedy, science fiction and 2nd world war story

I just finished a book by Xinran a Chinese journalists living in London.

It's called Buy Me the Sky: The remarkable truth of China’s one-child generations

A very telling book about Chinese culture and the people who will shape its future.

I found it a very interesting read.

I read something by Xinran a few years ago and really enjoyed it - I don't think it was the same book though.

Currently I am enjoying "K is for Killer" one of the Kinsey Millhone alphabet series books by Sue Grafton. Not very challenging, but it was a nice light book to carry with me when I was travelling on the weekend :)

Currently reading, American Gods, and I've just finished Neverwhere. Both by Neil Gaimen. Good fantasy/escapism. He wrote the book Stardust which was turned into a movie a few years back. If you have seen that they you get the vibe.

I'm working my way through the Jack Reacher novels. Currently on the 7th book. Im also a big fan of the Patrick Lee books

Re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird in anticipation of the release of the sequel next week, Go Set A Watchman. First non-uni/non-work book I've read in months. So sad.

Just started John Grisham's new book Gray Mountain. I've pretty much have all of his books so if anyone wants to read any of then let me know happy to pass/post it on to you.

Picked up The Silkworm (again, left it about 1/4 through) by Robert Galbraith. I enjoyed the last book, it's just one that I need to pay a lot of attention to while reading, and my mind tends to wander :)

Alanslegal I've heard a lot about John Grisham... Now, when will I find the time. Sigh. I really need to put some time aside for reading, I think. I enjoy it and never seem to do it these days. Not enough, anyway.

Going through a WW2 phase. Just finished Hitler's Warrior: Life and Wars of SS Colonel Peiper and currently ploughing through Comrades to the End about the 4th SS Panzer Division "Der Fuhrer" Also rereading The Art of Travel by de Botton which I recommended 100%.

If you're a bit time poor you could always watch the movies that were created from his novels - I know its not the same but you get an idea of his genre style. Some of his more well known movies include The Firm, The Pelican Brief, The Rainmaker and The Runaway Jury.

My daughter gave me "Jonathan strange and Mr Norrell " to read in anticipation of the new TV series starting in August. It looks to be about 3 inches thick. ....I better start soon.

Usual travel (sort of) related books, "Moron to Moron" by Tom Doig and "1989 The Berlin Wall My Part In Its Downfall" by Peter Millar.

Always love a Paul Theroux travel book. I always thought he was a grumpy old bugger but as I get older I relate to his writing better! Have read most of his travel books but only one novel. Must get some more.

Currently reading The Word Exchange by Alena Graedon - set in New York (like many novels) but as we had a week there (two weeks ago) it brings the scenes to life when you can picture the locations.

Oh the topic of travel books, I do love anything that Brian Thacker has written. His travel books are so fun and interesting. And his ideas for books (hey! I'll travel to a place I've never heard of!) are great. My favourite was definitely Rule Number 5: No Sex on the bus, confessions of a tour leader. He was a Top Deck tour leader for a number of years, and the stories he comes out with are just great.
