Hey all,

Just a few quick questions regarding an upcoming weekend in ADL.

Looks like I'll be flying DJ (SYD-ADL and return) as QF is about $70 more expensive each way, and the times don't suit as well as DJ - oh well, at least I'll get velocity points. Obviously my QP will be of no use this time, so was wanting to know what thoughts on the Lounge are? I probably won't have time to use it in Sydney, but considering purchasing an entry for my return flight in Adelaide. I searched an earlier thread which was critical of the Lounge in ADL, but wanted to know if any changes have since been made? Would entry be worth it for a Sunday afternoon?

Also, does anyone have some 'must do's,' while in Adelaide? I'm over there to watch a football match but thats at night, so will still have all of Saturdaay afternoon and Sunday morning to explore the city - apart from Glenelg beach, and ideas?

There’s plenty of wineries in the area, I’m not sure how you’d get to them, but if you’re into your wines, it’d certainly be well worth a trip to a few.

I'm not sure about must dos

There are the pandas
The wine centre
Haighs chocolate
Maybe hahndorf which is an old German settled village in the Adelaide hills
The northern expressway to the Barossa is great you could go out there for a winery or 2 or perhaps go to Maggie Beers place for lunch or such. That would involve a good half day I'd say and would need a car.

The Lounge in Adelaide is ok that other thread dealt with mainly cosmetic issues that still exist. But for $30 I would probably suggest eating in rundle St or somewhere in town before heading to the airport.

I must admit to having a soft spot for the QP in ADL (I write this sitting watching the buses from the landside facing window as I type).

To me the lounge has a lighter feeling to it and those working in it seem less stressed / more polite, possibly as a result of the fact that this lounge seems less full compared to those in SYD or MEL on any given day - at least in the 5-6 times I have been here in the past 12 months.

Whether access to the lounge is worth the asking price is entirely dependent on whether you feel access to any QP is worth it for a charge. The amenities / food etc are you standard non-J Lounge affair with the pluses that the food appears to be replenished quickly and the person serving your beer will actually try to strike up a conversation and ask how your day is going :)

I think the OP was referring to The Lounge by Virginblue not the QP.

Overall i agree the Adelaide QP is nice enough

I did two half day tours while there with a smaller tour company. Included was hahndorf, enjoyed the trip up and back more than the village. Village didn't match the lovely pics. shown on web, imho. Three wineries, found the scrum getting to front of bar to sample the wine not my thing, but again enjoyed the scenery getting there. Mt. Lofty, great lookout and good scenery. Enjoyed the leafy tree streets travelling through parts of the city, reminiscent of parts of England with the trees overeaching the st. and meeting in the middle. If you are into markets, market near the Hilton may be worth a visit. Haighs choc. is small factory plus store, if you like choc., then you will like this (also part of tours.)

That'll teach me to not skim read the Original Post!

Maybe the OP can get a WP to guest them into the QP on the day of travel :)

True. I'd be happy to pop out to the airport to do that, if it was before 1 February. ;)

There are two must do's in Adelaide...Amalfi Restaurant in Frome St in the city and a quick trip up the hill to the Adelaide Hills wineries. Lose yourself in a maze of great restauants and wineries. A taxi ride away....then you can drink!

+1 on Amalfi on Frome. Hmm thinking about the seafood pasta. Suggest booking a spot...
